I have a 32 gal tank and I usually only burn 8-10 gallons on fishing trips. I only use non-ethanol gas but I am thinking about adding some additive to clean the fuel system and improve the performance of the old gas. Any suggestions on the best product to use? Thanks.

Sea Foam Marine PRO

Picked this up last time I was at Academy on a whim. Walmart has it for a buck cheaper. I figured a little bit every time I refill probably isn't a bad idea.

Yamaha ring free on a two stroke. Seafoam on a four stroke. Don’t exceed the 1oz per gallon recommendation though.

I've used Seafoam and stabil in my 2 stroke yamaha 115 at times. Always seems like it makes it run kinda funny. Never used ring free before - need to give it a try. Why do you like it better for 2 strokes?

I have used Sea Foam and Stabill, but I now use and will continue to use a marine fuel stabilizer made by Lucas. I have a Yamaha F-115 with a 35 gallon fuel tank. I have never had water in the water separator.

Best method is to just keep it topped off. The airspace in a not-full tank is where the moisture comes from. No airspace = no air = no humidity = no moisture.

A trusted boat mechanic who works on all my outboards we use on the catfish farm told me once do not put sea foam in the gas.

K100 is the best by far.

Will restore octane rating of old fuel. Seafoam and startron are good products but only for fresh gas.

Most outboard dealers will use startron, or the merc/Yamaha branded products. Can’t really go wrong with any name brand stabilizer, just follow instructions and use it anytime boat is going to sit. Bad gas is a huge PITA and we actually have to pay ridiculous amount to dispose of it when we pump it out of peoples tanks.

1. Non ethanol fuel is clearly the "crucial" step # 1. I think that's the most important thing you can do. As was mentioned, keep the tank full and/or buy a water-separating fuel filter.

2. If you're running a Mercury they make 3 additives - two of them may be of interest (The third is for long term storage). Mercury calls them "QuicKare" and "QuicKlean."

You can buy them online at Bass Pro, Cabela's or from Walmart. I think the recommended solution is 1 ounce/5 gallons of fuel.

I used these two additives for 11 years in my 2-stroke Optimax Pro XS 250, and I use them religiously in my 4-stroke 250 Pro XS. They aren't cheap ($8-10/bottle), but neither are new engines.

While I do used the Merc products and try to buy ethanol free gas when I can, both topics are at least somewhat controversial, especially in newer outboards. Some say the additives do nothing. One guy at BBC posts data sheets of some sort. Yet another makes a case for using ethanol gas as a way to eliminate small amounts of water. I honestly don't know what to think.

I am not certain which additive you are recommending 1oz per gallon for but the correct usage of Yamaha Ring Free is one ounce per 10 gallons.

For little motors like that, I use Tru-Fuel. Always snaps to attention in a couple pulls after sitting in the offseason. Never had to pull a carb since I started using Tru-Fuel.

Tru-Fuel is obviously too expensive if you run a commercial operation and run that equipment on a daily basis. But for the weekend warrior with sub-par equipment, Tru-Fuel is the way to go. A gallon will last you two years or three years or longer on the little tiny 2-strokes like weed eaters.

Should I mix this in with my 2 stroke gas that I use for my lawn equipment or just fill them after I use them??
