You forgot to add that every bilge pump will eventually fail when they run out of battery. I am running a 750 & 850 on my 23V, that grady should have had atleast two 2,000's.
This is very true and is responsible for about as many boats hanging on mooring lines full of water as failed bilge pumps, bilge pump switches and bilge pump circuits....the charging system has failed or the batteries have failed and the boat had a leak as all boats in my experience do and, if left un attended long enough you have a boat hanging from the mooring lines with water over the transom and gunwales.
Batteries also fail underway as do circuits....and the bilge pump is as useless as teats on a boar hog. I had a small solar panel on the top of my T-Top on the last center console I owned and it would turn the bilge pump with no battery in the system but it of course would quit soon after sunset. It would also turn over the engine with no battery connected....not for long but this was a 150 with low compression and it would start and run without a battery connected to it through that little solar panel. I wouldn't leave the hill with it that way but I did lose battery power once on the way out of marina and re routed wiring to the starter and got under way. Nope, when you make the decision to get anywhere near water more than a few inches deep you are placing yourself at risk.

Why do these Johnny Six Pack's love being called "captain" so much? Ships have captains; fishing boats just have some dude driving it.

Did Captain America even have a "six pack license"?

If you spend any amount of time offshore you will find that there is an unlimited number of ways other boaters will find to endanger their lives and everyone with them. Jon boats 30 miles out, sure, no safety gear or maintenance, all the time. Hell just follow qualified captain on instagram, unlimited entertainment.
Idiots are everywhere, but, if you hold a credential from the USCG and you don't render aid, not only did you not do the right thing, you're breaking the law. I have pulled a decent number of people out of the water, most got there by doing something incredibly stupid, but that doesn't really matter.

There are only 3 scenarios where someone should be referred to as Captain.
1) a military officer with the rank of captain
2) an individual in command of a merchant ship who, preferably, holds an unlimited tonnage master's license from their flag state authority.
3) a merchant mariner employed as a ship pilot (used as a sign of respect)
Anyone else who refers to themselves in such capacity sounds like a douche.

the pilot or person in charge of a vessel underway is referred to as captain as a matter of course and courtesy in maritime tradition. Typically this only comes up in an official radio transmission or in a written account of an incident
but, you already knew that

Correct, I have no issue with referring to the operator of small fishing vessels as "captain," as a matter of courtesy, when that individual is actively engaged in the navigation of said vessel. I just find it hilarious when they continue to refer to themselves in such capacity in their every day lives.

PSA for anyone who boats these people were lucky people were around but your likelihood of not being found increases dramatically if you are wearing a blue, black, green or other non-flashy colored life jacket.
I’ve saved people in the water for over 24 hrs only because of pure luck that I heard a screaming voice or whistle and even then it took me minutes to locate the people because I couldn’t see them due to coloration of their life jacket.
Life jackets should be three basic colors Fluorescent Yellow, Orange, and Red.

Here is the story:
The boat started taking on water 30 miles offshore (at this time no apparent reason). The captain was able to run towards a platform that had a boat (Da Chit) fishing at, but the boat didn't make it all the way to platform as the water began to over take the boat. The captain did make mayday calls on the way to platform.
Da Chit boat refused to stop fishing to help fortunately another boat heard the mayday call and headed to sinking boat. The rescue boat came from opposite direction from the sinking boat, so they stopped by the Da Chit boat fishing. The captain on Da Chit told the rescue boat that a sinking boat needed their help and pointed them into right direction.
By the time rescue boat arrived at the sinking boat, the two kids (girls) were in the water and the others trying to bail out boat. Everyone was retrieve without an accident.
Da Chit boat did stop fishing after rescue boat went to location. They circle platform and boat then headed in. Da Chit is not cleared by coast guard and the investigation is ongoing. Coast guard is contacting all parties on sinking boat, rescue boat, and even the platform so more to come of the situation.

If that went down like its being reported then that guy needs his arse kicked every time he shows up to launch or dock his boat imho

This is kind of how I imagined it happened but it was just piecemeal. Thanks for updating. Sounds like he's fricked.

Yep best thing I have learned in ontop of shore power or boat trailering and land line plug in is a cheap $40-80 solar panel put on t top or somewhere on deck to give a constant trickle charge to batteries has saved me heart ache after my batteries dying a few times while on land charger from house circuit breaker flipping on me

If this is true screw him

That’s the story I got down in Dularge last weekend, but I didn’t repeat it cause it was hearsay.

How does a boat tip over like that on perfect day? Too many White Claws I guess
If any boat I am out in the Gulf on sinks, there will be little doubt as to the cause of the accident.

Been waiting a while to share this nugget, eh? Perfect timing!
