Fishing Boat sinking offshore

Anyone know anything about a vessel sinking near a rig in the gulf? There is a group on FB raising hell about a Charter Boat captain not rendering aid while a boat went down with a family. Supposedly 2 other boats helped.

Were the other 2 boats already assisting? Or was did they come after while those guys let a family float in the water? frick this internet mob shite.

I mean if two other boats are already assisting what exactly is a third going to do?

I saw this on facebook yesterday. Based on first hand accounts, the charter boat captain was indeed being a a-hole by not trying to help.
The guy and the marina he keeps his boat at was identified and the word was a few of the older more well known captains and such in the area were going to have a talk with the guy.

If that's the case then he was being a on a-hole for sure. But internet warriors can frick off with this shite. Waay out of hand

I agree in about 99% of the cases. People get way to excited about attacking online for some reason.

How does a boat tip over like that on perfect day? Too many White Claws I guess

I’ve seen all the post. I know the guys that rescued the people.
The boat that sunk had 5 adults and 2 children I believe. Sad situation if that “Captain” purposefully looked the other way during this.

Nobody mentions the captain of the boat that sank for not having an inflatable or god forbid putting the plug in, faulty brilge pump, or checking his boat for the safety of his family. Let's not forget...his boat is the one that sank and endangered his family. Could it have not been his fault? Sure but odds are it was sloppy maintenance

What was the reasoning he didn't help? Was it because 2 other boats were there? What was he doing to be an a-hole? Just curious.

I have to disagree with that. I knew someone that stayed on top of his boat and yet he had a thru hull fitting bust loose. One were he couldn't get to install a plug.
How many people carry a boat wood dowel plugs. Only something old school boaters carry on board.

Yep you are right. A lot more information is needed to decide whether the charter captain did the right thing or not. I mean... if the captain forgot to put the plug in then the captain of the charter was 100% correct for not helping a family bobbing around in the deep blue while their boat sank. Thanks for giving this some perspective.
Good grief...

Did I say that? No.
I'm commenting on the mob mentality that goes after one guy but not the captain of the sunk ship.

Easy to talk $hit from a safe place

I see the neighborhood facebook groups near me are trying to get a mob mentallity going and I wish they could be better at it. A group has been coming in at night stealing bikes all over the damn place. They are even bringing bolt cutters with them.
There are videos and pictures being posted, but nobody has been caught yet.

It would sure be nice to get the whole story before ruining this guy's business etc and spreading parts of stories. Kinda what this post is doing. If he's guilty of being a dick then so be it. This post doesn't really give any info.

They need to figure out who this is and he needs to find a different business. One guy gives all captains a bad name. If I was out there we would take him behind the berm to have a talk for sure.

Well I think that's kind of the point of the post. To find out the whole story and see what is legit or not.

A few unanswered questions;
1) Could the charter captain have been first or last to render aid?
2) Did the charter captain have sight of what was going on or was it based on radio conversation?
3) If the charter captain would have been 3rd to aid would he have been more in the way?
4) Would the guys on the oil rig render aid or are the boats on their own out there?
I have no idea what went on and am not supporting or condemning the captain but before I can input either way I'd like to know the answer to these.
