Seems like a waste of resources finding the owner honestly.

i mean how far do alligator snapping turtles travel? does the location of where he was caught really help point the law enforcement in the right direction?

Has the makings of a good TV show -- Dateline, 20/20, Forensic Files, whatever.

"The Case of the Trotline Turtle
" (DNA solves Jimmy Hoffa case.)

If no hospitals had a recent ER trip for a lost finger to a turtle, that’s gonna be postmortem feeding on a body. I’m sure they will run the DNA on it so it can be compared to any recent missing person reports.

Maybe not.

That’s a bad man that can manage a bitten off finger without any medical attention at all.

You are talking about stopping arterial bleeding, suturing a skin flap if there was one left after the bite and then a massive risk of infection.

Wouldn’t want to tangle with that guy.

Seriously, though, I hope the story gets around enough that if there is an explanation for the finger, somebody owns up to it.

Otherwise, there is a sunk body around there.

Couldn't they run the fingerprint?

A shriveled finger that hasn’t decomposed badly can be rehydrated with a needle and syringe enough to flatten out the finger pad enough for a print.

The article said it wasn’t badly decomposed.
