Sounds like he needed to stick with golf and drinking at home, because he's not teaching that boy anything but how to be hated by others.
Damn that sounds like a shitty time.

How on earth did he get the invite in the first place? Sounds like the guy is a chode

Man that sounds like some petty BS. I can't imagine something like that going down with the guys I hunt with, but I'm sure you thought the same thing walking into it.
Luckily I have a small group of guys I hunt with religiously, and while there are disagreements and different opinions, it never amounts to anything because we all trust each other and genuinely want to have a good time and enjoy the hunt.
Otherwise, the only other people I hunt/fish with are my 4 brothers. And while frustrating and annoying as they can be, they're family so you get over it. And we also pull no punches but know we all would do anything for each other so any temporary conflicts just dissipate quickly with a hand shake and a cold beer.

Your friend just seems like a douche. You probably should have known that already.

I've known him for about 2 years and he begs me to take him when he finds out that I'm going hunting. We had a guy cancel at the last minute and told the land owner that there were going to be 4 guys going so the spot was open. Before this I thought he was an ok guy, he never acted like that. I cut ties with him yesterday. I met him from coaching his kid in ball.

People... They're the worst.

reminds me of a few occasions where the guy that "never gets invited anywhere" tags along because he pressured a BIL or friend to bring him: hunting camp, fishing trip, suite tickets, bachelor party...

We used to try to pack the house with guests the first few years we owned the ranch, but quickly realized having to play host/babysitter makes it tough to enjoy your weekend. We only bring people we want down there now....people that will work if asked/respect what we say can and cannot be shot/aren't idiots when handing firearms. It's crazy how many people can't or don't want to follow those 3 simple rules.

Yea I just stick to public land. I’d rather take my risk with the orange coats

They say you don’t really know a man until you’ve hunted or fished with him.

Seems incredibly reasonable

You are 100% correct. Bunch of dumbasses in this world.
On our pheasant trip in Oct we eneded up hunting with another group due to car trouble for one of the guides. That was all well and good till the other group got hammered and some of the older men had accidental discharges of their guns and kept barrel sweeping other guys in the field.
Don't get me wrong, people in our group were drinking and having a good time, but when it gets to the point of barrel sweeping and unintentional firing, shite needs to stop. I don't care how much you paid to be there...

At our camp there is no power so we sit around at lunch and around the fire at night. One of our people brought a guy and his son 4 years ago. Both he and his son talked non fricking stop for 4 days. They talked over each other loudly all day every day. They were into tannerite and had about 200 videos of them blowing stuff up. Luckily for the rest of us they were also experts on everything else.
Never seen so many guys at our place leave camp with lunch with them. Guys I have never seen stay out past 10am left before sun came up and stayed out till the sun went down. The guy on our lease that invited them said he had no idea how they were and apologized every day.
Its a running joke at camp now. Someone will check a game cam or something and say "I got a cool tannerite video if anyone wants to see it."

This is why you buy you own 25-60 acres to hunt and forget about hunting clubs.

The jokes were not funny nor relevant. I thought I'd never say I'm ready for the weekend to be over. ESPECIALLY on a hunting trip. He's definitely that guy that never gets invited anywhere. Or if he does he acts an arse and doesn't get invited back.
A little common courtesy goes a long damn way. Just don't act an idiot like MillerMan said.

Your first story I thought you were just picky, but after the second I get it. We had a guy just like that for years. Finally everyone just had enough of “Jeff” 15 man Camp. It’s really hard to get everyone to get along and play nice.
I was in a great camp in Mississippi for years. Only a few local members and every one helped everyone out etc. drinking was allowed at night but was still very family friendly. Then they doubled the lease and almost all local bowhunters who hunt 3-4 times a week all season. They mapped every food tree, white oak, bedding area, climbing tree etc in our section (7500 acres) which they keep to themselves of course. Since I lost use of one eye and I am now night blind I ask for simple road and stand map, and was refused saying I needed to make my own (which would take years as we probably have over 100 stands almost no one knows them all.) I had to make several out of season trips this year to map everything. Took three days. Our camp is very wet and this causes people to have to go around bad spots which gets confusing at night under leaves etc. plus phones don’t work.
of course I shared my camera pics and what I saw on my few hunting trips and they promptly killed any good deer I found. They stayed on my arse about baiting when I never baited other than putting out salt licks and some corn in early fall by cameras before I started hunting. I have not even killed a deer in 5 years there. ( killed at buddies camps last three years) They go over their limit
This year was last straw. Fields were shite as they put all their time into new secret Club that they grabbed next door. My son hunted 4 days so nothing. Usually would see dozens and dozens of deer.
Club mix is very difficult to get right. We had it right for almost a decade but that’s it

There is a a litany of reasons why I like bird dawgs better than most people...

Just not worth it to really invite people you don't know or can somewhat get a gut check on prior to extending an invite. That's why we keep our camp attendance to just an inner circle. Hunting season is to short to waste it with inviting some jake-legs that can ruin a trip.
Also, when I get invited to a camp I pretty much STFU to the point that most people think I am complete dud.

Our fishing trips usually run Friday thru Sunday afternoon... which makes for a long weekend, and a decent amount of work, and relatively expensive.
I'm always reluctant to invite an unknown personality. So far, so good, but some people are just idiots.
If you happen to be the one who never gets invited: talk less, bring enough cash to cover and then some, and look for ways to help out, or better yet, ask for ways to help. And don't drink like a 17 year old.

Unfortunately these kinds of guests seem to be few and far between.
