EJW!

I’ll never forget when we figured out each other’s handles on here. Had known JD for years and we recently had gotten into the same hunting camp. A trail cam picture of a bear made us realize who each other were. Good times. JD was a fine man and great to have around a kick fire. Think about him often this time of year.

Judge Smails, refresh my memory on that pup. Didn’t Gerber Baby buy him at the auction, then end up having to get rid of it? My memory of the auction was a little hazy after we drank them out of Charter. Either way I’m glad an OBer still has him. I have his litter mate. Looks identical to your EJW. He’s the best lab I’ve ever had. A retrieving and deer tracking machine.

First times he’s used it. Said it was magic.

And was done early enough to kill a limit of squirrels after.

I first met JD at the Rayvegas Sonic the1st day of dove season, about 11 years ago. The start of a good friendship with him and his family.
I’m reading this stuff while sitting up in a climbing stand. My eyeballs developed a bad leak for a while, but then stopped after remembering some of the crazy and fun deals, antics and pranks. Thanks Josey, you made me laugh again!

Hey Smack and guys,

Not as much as it used to be!
We need to rendezvous and catch up on things. Reading this thread and the legacy thing made me nostalgic and gooey. Ha.

Pretty noble thing you did hardly knowing ejw

you can talk to people on this more often than the ones you really know in person. Weird it’s like that.

That’s correct Balls. One of my favorite memories of that night was when you asked for another Charter and the white-coated, dark skinned man behind the bar look at you with a confused look before responding “You had drank it all?”

I remember talking to him on here in a thread on the OT when he just found out he had cancer. After he died I found out I had mutual friends with him, he was very well liked.

Was hoping to meet him in person, but the Lord had other plans. Was great meeting other board members and putting faces with names.

Thanks for posting. Brings back memories. I remember thinking about driving in from Dallas for the fund raiser even though I didn’t know any of the posters. It wasn’t to be. But, every time “Drink a Beer” by Luke Bryan comes on the radio I think of him. The first time I heard this song was about the same time I learned of his passing.

The Outdoor Board is a special place and things like this are what make it special.

Lyrics
When I got the news today
I didn't know what to say.
So I just hung up the phone.
I took a walk to clear my head,
This is where the walking lead
Can't believe you're really gone
Don't feel like going home
So I'm gonna sit right here
On the edge of this pier
Watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer
Funny how the good ones go
Too soon, but the good lord knows
The reasons why it gets
Sometimes the greater plan is kinda hard to understand
Right now it don't make sense
I can't make it all make sense
So I'm gonna sit right here
On the edge of this pier
Watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer
So long my friend, until we meet again
I'll remember you
And all the times we used to
Sit right here on the edge of this pier
Watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer
Drink a beer, drink a beer.

Pretty sure I ended up getting that hunt. Took my dad brother and another OBer I had not previously met.

That hunt started a friendship that lead to meeting even more OBers, and my new found love for salt water fishing.

I wish I had met EJW. The outpouring of love and respect that night and even now 6 yrs later, makes a pretty clear statement of what kind if guy he was.

I have spoken to EJW’s dad several times in Monroe but it’s been a while.

Solid family. Jason's sister is Monroe city attorney now and does an excellent job. Great accomplishment for someone in their mid-30s....she very much earned it.
