Pretty sure it was cancer. He talked about the treatment here. In fact, it seemed like he was doing okay up until about a week prior, then things must have taken a terrible turn.

He was a great poster - one of the best on the OB.

Certainly don’t remember all the posters, but damn, doesn’t seem like 6 years since he was posting. Sucks

I’ve been at the camp all week and yesterday I passed down one particular road that has a cottonwood at the intersection of a Y in the road. JD used that cottonwood to rest his rifle to shoot a large hog some years ago.
I enjoy passing by that spot because he is always there with his rifle at the ready.

There are far too many memories and stories to tell but for some reason he is hanging out at that cottonwood any time I pass that way.

Truly the most moving story of the OB, EJW was a great poster who got along well with everyone, shared his diagnosis of cancer (I think mouth or lip and if I remember right he never used tobacco) as well as his journey through treatment and how he shared some of his last days outdoors with his kids. Some of his friends (who are also posters)put together a huge fundraiser for him and his family , unfortunately he passed away a week prior to the fundraiser. Several ,posters who never met him went to his funeral and contributed heavily to his family with money (smackover) and handmade items to auction (fish fighter), I think I remember the grand total of the fund raiser being well over 150K. Several months after his death his children were involved in a fundraiser at school that was important to them and a poster/friend put out a call for help to the OB and the board responded with and overwhelming amount of support and blew the fundraiser out of the water and EJWs kids got the pizza party and limo ride or whatever as well as special shout out from the teacher and principal to the OB

Monday makes 6 years. Some days it seems like an eternity and others it seems like yesterday. I have the pic of the three of us and PapaEJW on his last fishing trip on my office desk that Wick gave me. That's one treasure I have that can't be purchased.

God Bless that family. QR and I spent the weekend in NOLA last weekend for our anniversary. We ran into someone that knows Anna Lisa and Jason and SJ and Jake. We talked with them for at least an hour. I had the privilege to get to know Jason and Anna Lisa quite well before he got sick. Wonderful people and the folks we ran into said Anna Lisa and the kids are doing great back in Monroe. I pray for them often. God bless.

KR is fat......

This good baw came from the benefit mentioned above. His name? Josey Wales. I thought a pic in front of the LSU tree would be something EJW would appreciate.

I see Anna Lisa and the kids in church from time to time. They seem to be doing well.

I never knew EJW but went to the benefit just from reading his posts on the OB. Me and a buddy donated a duck hunt for it and then I realize who he was married to. I went to high school with Anna Lisa and am very good buddies with her older brother.

Hard to believe...

I believe I will go outside tonight and have a kickfire with the kids.

RIP EJW

Today would have been their 16 th anniversary. He left this world 4 days after their 10 th anniversary in 2013. He was so happy to give her a special gift for their 10th his sister helped him pick out.

Been lurking forever, I remember the threads he would post. Heartbreaking doesn't do it justice. I hope nothing but the best for his family.

I'm a lurker on the OB, but I remember very well the ordeal EJW went through. It seems that his memory is truly a blessing.

Damn it. Six years!
Miz C and I were at the fundraiser. I still look at the pics of the OBers that were there.
How about a Count here? I remember some but not near all. Just post present or more if you feel like it.
Made me extremely proud to be a member of this board.
I have spoken to EJW’s dad several times in Monroe but it’s been a while.
