We just have not had the cold weather. 3 gazillion pounds of corn on the ground and ice eaters in Midwest has nothing to do with their being no birds. Come on guys.

1. I think it is was more than the weather

2. Ice eaters aren't doing anything but allowing the birds in the area a place to get shot in.

3. Please don't tell me u think flooded corn is everywhere?

Southern Terrebonne has been abysmal.

I think weather has been a factor. It's been getting cold, however it's the wrong kind of fronts. Fronts used to come generally straight down from the artic, now they mostly come in a long sweeping direction from west to east. That just doesn't seem to "push" the down like they used to. There are just no more high flying migrating birds like we used see to until the late 90s.

It’s been a solid year in Gibson. Lots of ringers and teal.

Do I believe these are the only issues ? No but do you honestly not think the huge increase in corn production over the last 20 years, the what is now close to 2 million acres of refuge just in the Mississippi flyway, and then you allow people to plant an ag crop without any intention to harvest around 15 years ago not have any effect on the migration patterns? I mean they now plant Pygmy corn which only grows 3’and is not harvestable strictly for hunting over. They estimate in just the waste grain from corn harvesting to have enough to feed 100 million mallards. So let me guess you just think it’s weather?

Not really comprehending what you are trying to say

Are you saying that around 15 years ago a rule was changed allowing this?

South shore of Lake pontchatrain. Not one duck in all those wetlands. Sad times. Son wants to hunt so bad and we go but it’s work for nothing.

That's what I've been seeing from people I know. I used to hunt Orange Grove up till about 5 years ago. The past couple years have been fairly good back there it seems. Might be time for me to come back

There has not been an increase in corn acres over the past 20 years. Corn acres peaked at about 97 million in 2012. They're down to about 88 million today. The Midwest has about the same number of acres of farm land as it's had in the past 100 years. That land basically rotates between soybeans and corn each year.

This increase in corn acres you're talking about is a wive's tale.

Ducks no longer know their way to Louisiana. It’s pretty much proven in the numbers. We have nothing left and each year is beginning to be more of a disappointment. I’m depressed for the next generation

No till is a factor. Been up there the last 7 years, tons of corn left in field. Sure I can go shoot some ringers and teal in Terrebonne parish. They have essentially replaced the mallards, pins and greys. Perhaps opening the season in January like many wanted is the answer.
