Canoe float trip with son - Buffalo River or other

Looking for suggestions from the OB. Have a 12 year old son and we are looking for a father son trip the week after Easter when he is out of school. I have been eyeing the Buffalo river near Jasper Ark to find a cabin and canoe, catch some small mouths, hike, etc. any suggestions on other locations I should take a look at?
TIA
TIA

We can be flexible, probably 3-4 nights

My dad and I went a few times on the White/North Fork River. Stayed in a cabin just outside of Norfork, and rented a boat a little trout dock there. It was a lot of fun.
ETA: sorry, guess I misunderstood your question. My reading comprehension is lacking tonight.

Buffalo River is a great trip. Could also do blue ridge mountain/southern Appalachia area.

Do it, we took our 2 sons years ago, (before the 3rd was born) and it was great. The limestone bluffs are really beautiful, the water is clear and you can see the fish. There is nothing like it in the southern U.S.

If your in Huntsville. The Buffalo River near Waynesboro TN is close by (100 miles) and has OK canoeing and camping/cabins. Your boy may see some tits if he hangs out long enough at the sand bar by the cliff jump
ETA: It's not the kinda place you want to stay 3-4 nights. 1 or 2 nights would be plenty.
Cabin/Canoe Rental

I canoed Buffalo in 1975. I have been dying to get back there but have not made it yet. I would go there.

2 nights is plenty. Great trip! Check water levels.

We stayed at Buffalo Point because it was the only spot with good water in the fall. Farther west on the river there are some really great options in the spring from what I've read, we just didn't get to float it.

You don't get the same type of scenery, but Devil's river in Texas is also a great trip. I just quoted your post to say you're right, but there's also nothing like Devil's river. Two completely different, but equal trips IMO.
Devil's is not something I'd do with a 12-year-old, though. I'll probably take my son when's he's 16-17 and can be the pack mule.

Biggest hint is check river levels before you go. That time of year week to week can change where you can float. Tube jigs and rebel crawfish. You cold even run over to the spring river and do a little more technical but still easy float and catch trout as well. IF they finish bleeding off the lake and water levels go back down a run over to the Norfork River can pay off big for trout. Take him to dry run creek and he has a great chance at huge trout.

Boc (buffalo outdoor center) in Ponca has nice cabins, just check the water level. In late summer it gets low making it hard to canoe...

How early is too early for the Buffalo? Would the 2nd week of March be too early for a canoe trip? I know it may be chilly, but in a canoe pants and a jacket are doable and camping is fine. I mean mostly for river levels and fishing?
Also OP, I’d consider adding a day for weather. Plan an extra day to bum around the cabin and do some light fishing or do nothing in case it rains. If you have the time anyway.

The water wont be much colder in March than summer. The smallmouth and trout will bite. I'd be more concerned with rainfall and sudden rise

Staying in Jasper early June, my FIL and I booked a fly fishing guide out of Cotter for one of the days, but the family is going to do some hiking and try to kayak/canoe the Buffalo, so I'm hoping I can poach some recommendations.
