I believe they have somewhat. Rut in SW part of state is late September/early October. This allows fawns to be old enough when peak hurricane season hits. On other end, deer in spillway area are in late January/early February to allow late fawn drop following spring and summer floods.

Does will go into rut based on length of days not the air temp or moon phase.

However, if it’s hot they’ll be way more likely to live on my land bc I will be fishing

Deer will go in rut same general timeframe whether it’s 90 degrees or 0 degrees. A buck can chase does for longer periods of time if it’s cool outside. Just like us being outside when it’s hot, there is only so much you can do before tiring out from the heat

But what CamdenTiger said, it is supposed to come down to the amount of light in the day. However, Louisiana has a rut going on from September - February, so try to make sense of that with the amount of light argument.

Coastal deer, genes have fawns coming early to be mobile before hurricanes, delta deer rut late to have fawns drop after river falls

Perry county MS has the latest rut in the state with full chasing still happening in mid February. Leaf river WMA there was high fenced and used as a restocking site with deer from Mexico.

My timberlands are a couple miles from Leaf. I didnt know we had Mexican deer, but I have seen the rutting during the late primitive season. I've jumped spotted fawns alone that can barely run in October.

Temperature should have nothing to do with the rut. The rut is directly correlated to the length of daytime light.

The deer should not care about the temperature when the need to proliferate the herd is so instinctive.

Hunting in the heat sucks, but the time is NOW.

I certainly hope you’re right. Headed back out this week, dug out the September teal season camo gear and loaded up on bottles of Gatorade. Figure mornings will be our best bet of a bad hand we’re being dealt.

Deer activity decreases less feeding moving around. This results in less buck movement because their are not hot does walking all over the place and buck frantically looking for them.
But the does will get bred pretty much the same time as last year in whatever area you hunt.

Read as much Charles Alshiemer as you can. He spent most of his adult life conducting research on this topic.

I didn’t realize this happened. Why was our deer population so low?

Deer populations across much of the country were low. For food.

Market hunting and folks killing deer to eat during the Great Depression. It’s estimated that there were less than 1000 deer in the entire state of MS at one point in the early 30s.

At the same time as restocking was occurring, a lot of virgin timber had been cut and predator populations had been wiped out for hides. This set the table for exponential growth once hunting pressure was eliminated. A lot of localized genetic quirks are due to genetic bottlenecking, where a very small number of restocked deer seeded entire counties.

Most of Alabamas deer are not of Michigan and Pennsylvania stock.

Most genetic surveys are showing that the northern deer didn’t survive long enough to contribute anyway in the few places they were stocked. They can’t find a trace of the mythical “Wisconsin blue deer” everyone has heard about around the fire. Apparently they were very susceptible to EHD and couldn’t handle the heat.

Yep, it's estimated they were mostly dead within 4 years.

Even if they would of survived your still looking at 90 plus years of breeding with other deer.

I was told deer were restocked from the Mobile area and that’s why the rut is so late regardless of change in daylight. Most of the deer in my area of SW Ga have Wisconsin strain in them which is why our rut starts Nov 15 but you will still see bucks chasing well into December. Some areas of the state have the rut start when tdeer season ends which is kind of fricked up for them.
