I have been calling around looking for an ATV. Found one in Arkansas, but the salesman told me that I would have to pay sales tax to them in Arkansas and again in Louisiana when I want to register it here.

Anybody familiar with this or know of a workaround?

False.

If you're paying cash they don't collect any taxes.

If you're financing, they'll collect taxes and title the unit for you.

That dealership is stealing.

As far as registering, I wouldn’t buy a used one without a clean title. I couldn’t imagine buying one that I couldn’t verify that the person I was buying it from actually owned it.

I’ve never financed a atv, but I’ve also never bought one that cost $26k before either. I’ll be financing this one for a couple of years anyway.

What are you getting?

I finally broke 15k purchase price when I got the new Yamaha.

Not Arkansas but I bought a Honda at Brookhaven and didn't pay any taxes to MS but paid taxes at the DMV in LA when I registered it. I'm sure it's the same in AR.

Why would it be any different than a car?

Finance through a credit union and show up with a check for the purchase price (without any taxes). You can figure out La TTL with the credit union.

Did you read the rest of the post where we are talking about buying across state lines?

If you pay cash for a titled vehicle in another state, and you are a resident of louisiana, they should not be collecting taxes.

ETA: I want to know what this baw is buying.

Honda pioneer crew cab. It’s 22900 adding a top, winch, and windshield.

It surely isn’t a crazy jacked up mud riding rock crawling rig. Just a hunting vehicle that I can take 5 adults in very occasionally.

Hell a regular single seat model is pushing 20k without any add-ons.

TX does the same thing. I was buying anew SxS last year and the salesman said you pay the tax in TX and you get a credit in LA for whatever tax you pay in TX. I assume its the same with AR.

Arkansas looks to have a 6.5% state sales tax. Louisiana has 4.45%. If you pay in Arkansas, that amount should transfer over to cover Louisiana state tax. You will still have to pay your local municipality tax. That is unless part of that payment can go toward it. That I am unsure of.

"A credit against the 4.45 percent state sales tax will be granted to residents who paid a similar tax on the purchase of the motor vehicle in the other state if that state allows a credit for taxes paid in Louisiana."

I am not familiar with this across-state-lines things on vehicles, but that seems crazy to me.

Little Rock. They had two red ones and a camo one was supposed to come in today.

Nobody else has had a camo one yet.

Yeah, don't register it. Also, check Mississippi. I got my Honda Rubicon a couple years ago for $2000 below msrp from Great River Honda in Natchez.
