Sounds like you need a flame thrower and some napalm.

Yep, you got hammered.

Few years back, running back pack blower and hit a bumblebee nest in ground under some magnolia leaves.

Unlike a honey bee that stings once, bumblebees can sting and sting and sting.

Made it to the back door. Went into anaphylactic shock, same symptoms you described, actually thought I was a goner, could not stand up to get to the phone and passed out on the kitchen floor.

Called doctor in the family when I came to and he said worst was over.

Went the next day and got the Epi-pen to keep handy.

Did 5 years of bee anti-venom shots at Ochsner.
No further incidents.

Damnit man. I thought they got me good. They even got my cur that was following the tractor. I remember them seeming to just be stuck to my dog as I stalled the tractor. I think she kept me from getting hit more than I did. We were both swole up and miserable for a day or two. Glad you are ok. You are correct. They do not stop. They are bad.

I've never heard of anyone being attacked by bumble bees.

My grandfather had white hair. He got hit in the oil field when he was in his 40s... All those old guys said he had black hair he had so many on him.

Older cousin got into them as a teen and his white shirt looked like a damned dalmation

I always wear black. And we always got a few boxes of fine shot to handle the bumble bees. Shoot the log to draw em out, then just start blasting from 40 yards

Edit: I've been hit enough times to know one weird side effect. OPs ol lady should enjoy the next week or two. I swear that must be aome ancient chinese medicine. Be stings make your stinger

Worked summers in high school and in between semesters in college with my dad for 7-8 years at a hunting ranch in South La. Started on lawn mowers and doing shite work to bush hogging, hauling cane, and operating heavy equipment. My dad and I were clearing trees on two dozers and I hit a nest. By the time I realized, I was already hit 5-6 times so I threw it in reverse, jumped off, and ran to my dad’s truck about 3/4 of a mile away. By the time my dad got to me, I was in my canecons in the truck, with about 37 stings. Small, black, ground bees. Old cajun men that worked there called them bourdons. Said they’d heard of people drowning thinking if they jumped in water they would go away. But they hover, until you pop up and sting some more. Didn't have a bad reaction but I was in bed for 2 days hurting, exhausted from Benadryl, and itching towards the end. Dont wish it on anyone.

“You must already have know you were at risk if you had an epipen”

My wife got an epipen because a couple times I got stung by Yellowjackets my chest got tight and I was really short of breath, she was afraid if I got stung again I might not make it to the house to get some Benadryl.I carried it for awhile, but like a dumbass,I quit carrying it.

Crazy thing,I’ve been stung by every kind of wasp there is,honey and bumblebees and a hornet once.Never had any systemic reactions to any except the Yellowjackets, until yesterday.

Going to get a new epipen tomorrow,I’m not going back in the woods without it again.

When I was a kid I was climbing up a deep ditch embankment. I came upon a small hole in the ground and it soon felt like I was being strafed by machine gun fire. I felt your pain.

Man that sucks. My only experience close to that or Yellowjackets is I was sighting in a slug gun. The blast must have pissed off a passing black hornet thing as it landed on my left forearm and stung me.

My arm swelled from my wrist to my elbow. Hurt like a sob. I’m not exact sure what it was. It was black, and as large as the size of those big black horse fly looking things, but those have never bit me.

I went to urgent care as a precaution on that one.

Never heard of a bumblebee nest though.

Found one at work in central OK some years ago while mowing. Two got me but they were coming hard and fast but I got out of there.

There was a hollow spot underground where we had this huge dying willow tree and they were holed up below ground near the base of the tree. Threw on a tyvek suit and grabbed a cinder block and went back for revenge. Dropped the mower deck to the ground and engaged blades upon approach. Parked right over the entrance and set the block on the seat so the mower wouldn't die. Ran like hell and then came back about 20 minutes later to pure carnage. No problems ever since.

Old folks here xall them ground hirneys but they look like a bubble bee. They will come at you when you bush hog over their underground nest. They dont sting as much as take a dam bite. And do not swat them as that just tells them what ti bite. Have had 4-6 bites and that is plenty.

They got me about two weeks ago bushhogging a firelane. I didn't even hit their hole. They were inside the trees but about a foot off the road. I was backing the bushhog up and when I turned around I noticed them swarming the bushhog. The light bulb went off and a second or two later, they started tearing me up. I jumped off the tractor and took off running. I ran where I thought I was far enough away and stop and as soon as I did they lit me up again. Ended up running to the gravel road. I hate yellow jackets with a passion but I don't think they hold a candle to bumble bees.

8mg prednisone ain't shite, should've took 40-60mg. And steroids like prednisone take several hours to kick in, with as bad as your reaction was the next time you use an EpiPen you should get your arse to the ER before the Epi wears off, 30 minutes to an hour. Epi pen is just to buy time so you can get to a hospital. The next reaction could be worse than the previous one. Glad u are ok. I hate wasps/hornets/etc. Some yellow jackets got me one time when I was using gas trimmer to clean up a shooting lane. Luckily I am not allergic, still hurts though.

Glad you're feeling better. Bumblebees and yellow jackets are considerably faster than an M-F tractor. Ask me how I know...

“ the next time you use an EpiPen you should get your arse to the ER”

Wife tried to get me to go to ER but I pitched a fit that I was fine, didn’t need to,etc.
Next time I will.I’m a dumbass but I’m prepared now,I have 2 EpiPens now, carry 1 in a passport case with strap around my neck.
I also had the misconception that Benadryl would prevent anaphylaxis's if taken soon enough.Dr. Google said that’s wrong.

I should have been more careful, just 1 Yellowjacket sting makes my chest tight and short of breath.and that’s happened several times.Other wasps and bumblebees never had any systemic effect on me.
Just got too complacent.

Never been stung by bumblebees, but every few years we’ll have a swarm somewhere at the camp. They are EASILY ANNOYED! Such as drive a truck near their hole and they swam annoyed. It’s kinda scary. It’s always in the back of my mind when we do work at the camp around this time of year.

I prefer snakes over things that fly, swarm and sting. Snakes are much easier to avoid.

Bumblebee sting is brutal.

Demon WP and soak the ground. They won’t bother you again.
