been going on for a while now

I haven't heard anything about it, but I'm sure it's BS. If a radio in texas knows about it, I'm sure we would know by now.

i saw a few links were lawyers were trying to put a class action lawsuit together. i thought it was a little shady to get paid as a recreational fisherman.

I feel the same way. BP should only have to pay those that lost income as a result of the spill.

This. While it was an inconvenience that we couldn't enjoy doing what we love the ones who deserve money are the ones that make their living fishing.

Good thing I'm not a broke arse college kid with a registered boat and a lifetime fishing license...
Oh wait...
All bs aside though, if it's true there probably are perfectly fine financially secure people beating BP's door down to get their checks.

The problem with this is that if you have a big boat for offshore or even a small inshore boat, you pay insurance and up keep for something that you as a rec fishermen didn't get to use for X amount of time. That and along with that boats price dropped due to the oil spill.
I didn't apply for anything myself, but I should of due to the lost and cost of 3 boats I wasn't able to use at the time of everything closed were I fished.

There was a lot of people I talked with who considered applying for it to get the cash from BP and turn around and give it to wildlife nonprofit of your choice.
At least this would put it back to the resource. It does exist, not sure how to qualify.

Now that's an idea. If they do it and can get me some info to cut through the BS I'd do it it a heartbeat for US the LA fisher.

i'll be honest, i applied
figured it was worth a shot....not like it's going to put a dent in all the money BP makes/has anyways.....sent in the paperwork and got sent another (larger) pack of papers to fill out
i doubt i continue the process, though

If anything the spill saved rec fisherman from spending money. How did the spill finacially impact a recreational fisherman? Pain and suffering?

How about this argument...
How much do you fish, if you normally fill the freezer with fish to eat and now you can't and have to buy additional food from the store, have you now been impacted?
