So a friend of mine is having problems with a bear at his lease. Tearing up feeders and demolished a blind. I know no one here would ever do ANYTHING to harm a bear.
But hypothetically speaking, if a deranged outlaw was to do the disgusting, unthinkable act of trying to rid his place of this bear. How do you think this hypothetical outlaw would go about it?

1. See mylsuhat's comment.
2. Find another outdoor board.

Register with your state and federal government to become a lobbyist, and wine and dine those idiots to get a black bear season in Louisiana. Hypothetically speaking.

Does he hypothetically have access to a backhoe that he could hypothetically dig a deep hole with? I mean, we’re still a country where high powered rifles are legal and we’re not going to the moon here.

Not hypothetically though, it’s a piece of shite move.

Killing a bear out of season (which LA and MS do not currently have) is an absolutely horrible idea. Also, it's a bear, if food is available they will eat it. Can't blame the bear.

Maybe a leg shot?

I agree it's a shitty thing to do, but damn they can tear up some stuff. They're basically giant racoons.

Dude, wtf. This is so shitty. Crazy how people on this board consider themselves hunters and lovers of nature when they say absolutely asinine shite like this. Why would you ever suggest someone maim a bear just because it eats your corn?

Solar powered electric fence will do a good job of keeping them out normally. Deer can still jump it. It has worked for several years on bee hives at one of our places. Not fool proof but a start.

And I'm in a area with a much better bear population so I'm not crying over the destructive frickers. SSS method if damage is extensive and the fence doesn't work.

Get metal feeders and use rebar stakes to anchor them into their spot. Don't shoot a bear.

That LA doesn't have a bear season is absolutely baffling to me.

The #1 benefit of having a bear season, even a limited or lotteried one, is that the majority of the bears that get killed are the ones that aren't afraid of humans. The ones that smell you a mile away and keep their distance are the ones that survive. Over time, you end up with a population of shy bears, instead of a population of bold bears. Look at North Carolina. In the National Park, there is no hunting season. That's where all the bear attacks occur annually. On the national forest land, where hunting is legal, zero bear attacks in many many years. Not because there's no bears there, there certainly are, but they have learned not to FAFO.

Yet they get championed on this very message board for shooting people's dogs for doing dog-like things.

I had a bear on our lease once. Quit feeding where he was showing up for a couple weeks and never saw him again except for crossing a road one day. Not sure if he's there or not now. Don't see any sign of him. Don't really care if he's around or not unless I find evidence of him eating turkey eggs. If so, I'm going to fight him with my fists until he decides to go elsewhere or eats me.

Dog hunters not having control over their dogs and letting them run on whatever property they want as a domestic animal is not the same thing as a wild bear on your property. Sorry but your analogy sucks.
