Best Choke for Dover Hunting

I always shoot a full choke with low brass 8's

You have to let em get a little distance away

yeah there is no one answer, depends on how they are flying. This weekend I was batting cleanup for a 9 and 11 year old so I went with IM. The couple I did manage to shoot close in were real dead.

I use modified, it’s been stuck in my barrel for 3 years. Buddy uses full and does very well, too good when they are close.

Pretty much all I use myself. I bump up the shot size for geese and cranes. They pattern extremely well out of my A5.

Depends on what brand of chokes you are using and what gun you are shooting. You’d be surprised at how much information you can get from patterning your gun. I got real serious about patterning my gun a couple years ago and it was the best thing I ever did in terms of improving my shooting.

I tried the factory IC in my Beretta A390 the first day I shot it. Patterned it, and shot skeet with it.

Just unbelievable consistency for almost 2 decades at this point.

For dove- federal #8s with the IC
For ducks- 3" Fasteel #4- also IC. I don't shoot them unless they're cupped or already sitting in the decoys. Works great.

IC is my go to for both. If I have to go to a full, I already know we are either sky busting, or we are going to be flaring birds right as they cup up

It’s the new one. I’m on my 3rd. This one seems to be holding up better than the first 2 they replaced. Choke deal is my fault, sprayed some Pam on it and never thought to change it until Turkey season. Checked this morning, I have improved mod stuck in it. Another 15 down. Been a stellar season so far.

Hell yeah, glad to hear it. Headed down to Dilley in a few weeks for my annual trip.

I typically shoot modified out of my 12 but will have a full with me if I need it. My 20 ga is almost always full or IM.

Funny story my paw paw had a 20ga remington 1100 with a fixed full choke barrel and he was always lights out with that gun no matter what we were hunting. We planned a dove hunt at my uncles place and all week my paw paw was talking about how many more doves he was going to shoot than me. I went to academy and bought some remington high brass 7 1/2s and put the full choke in the browning gold hunter I had at the time. 12 shots later I had my 8 doves while he only had 3. I asked if he needed me to help work on his limit next. He hated being outdone and man did that feel good to finally beat him. I sure miss that old man.
