Someone posted about this when I happened and I think this dude was in upper ouchita. 20 years is a lot of time for some spoon bills.
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - A Monroe man has been convicted of assaulting federal Fish and Wildlife agents by federal jury.
According to the U.S. District Attorney’s, Western District of Louisiana, on August 26, 23-year-old Carson McKoin was found guilty of assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal wildlife agents.
McKoin faces up to 20 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release. His sentencing is scheduled for December 2, 2026.
According to evidence presented at trial, McKoin and other men were hunting in January 2024, when McKoin believed other hunters were encroaching on the duck hole his group claimed.
McKoin reportedly heard a boat approaching and fired a shot toward what he thought were incoming hunters. The individuals approaching were actually federal fish and wildlife agents performing their official duties.
Evidence states McKoin admitted to firing the shot when confronted but claimed it was simply a “signal shot,” a statement at odds with the agents’ belief that he had intentionally fired at

The local story is they were hunting and an unmarked boat kept driving around them. The guy fired a shot into the air to let them(perceived to be other hunters) know that they were already there and set up. One or two pellets fell onto the undercover agents, so he was hit with charges.
If true best be careful dove hunting this season because your shot might fall on an encroaching green jeans.

My father always told me when you repeat ignorant or stupid shite, you sound equally ignorant or stupid.
This is a good example of this.

I know a guy who shot directly at a game warden and didn’t even get a fine. This was back in the early ‘80’s and he and a buddy were shooting wood ducks roosting in a beaver swamp. They saw the game warden approaching across an open field and took off running. The warden was gaining on them so they turned around and peppered him with shot. The warden stopped chasing and went back to his truck and got on the radio and called it in. Local deputy picked my buddy up right down the road. It went before a judge and the judge said those boys were too young to have their lives ruined over shooting some ducks. Never mentioned that they had shot at and actually hit a game warden. I don’t know if the game warden being black had anything to do with the judges decision but I always suspected that it did.

I don't know nothing about nothing, but this part bothers me unless there is some pretty blatant evidence of his intent.

Was this the same kid that rammed a boat at Wham and hurt the other boat driver?

Its amazing the lengths people will go on WMA's to defend "their" duck holes, all over a duck... wild.

I agree it was a terrible move firing his gun but doubt he fired it "at them", these possum cops are all drama queens and make a big deal out of every situation.
Can't see a judge giving a kid 20 years over this.
We used to hunt Felsynthal and would go stake out our place at 3-4 am, never failed that a boat full of yahoos would come motoring in on us right at daybreak.

why not flash them with a spotlight to let them know someone is already there?
Because that's what normal hunters do, mouth breathers do what he did...

A kid? He is 23. Legally been an adult for 5+ years. I guess personal responsibility doesn't mean shite anymore.

I bet your Dad had to tell you that quite often.
I don't know the kid or his family. There are always two sides to every story. It seems the jury believed the law enforcement side

I imagine that probably did happen. That is how we do it. I can actually almost without fail describe how this entire situation went down since I hunt on Upper when the water gets right. Along with just about everybody else. They heard the boat motor getting closer and closer and then was shut off close to the hole. They probably did shine the Feds off and my take is that they could still hear that unmistakable sound of waders prancing right into your duck hole. This ole boy finally had enough and shot. My question is did the Feds identify themselves or not? Sounds like a no since it said something about undercover. Now I doubt he intentionally fired directly at the agent or agents but I can promise you there was some intent. Probably didn't help matters that there was some buddies probably egging him into this.
