re: At a cabin just outside Gatlinburg. Just watched bears mate

Yeah they were going at it for at least 30 minutes. Not sure how long before we saw them. Most of the time he had her pinned on her belly and she was kind of army crawling some. She wasn’t just laying there letting him do his thing. She seemed to have enough 4-5 times but he wouldn’t stop. That pic was one of two times she got to her feet but he would push her back down. So I wasn’t surprised she looked rough after all that. I honestly thought mating would be like 30 seconds to a minute. Seeing lions do it in nature shows it seems they are pretty quick so I guess that’s just what I expected but we read black bears go anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. Every 30 seconds or so his hind legs would shake, almost vibrate real fast. I thought it was maybe him “finishing”…no clue though. He looked determined to impregnate her that’s for sure. My 11 year had a lot of questions.

ETA: and yes he had a tag in both ears. She didn’t have any. I’d be happy to share the info with whoever studies them but I’m not sure how to find that info.

Pretty sure the same male, two tags, just came by again. He sniffed around the spot from yesterday then followed the path up the driveway. Circled our car a few times then went up the mountain in the exact spot they went up yesterday. He’s looking for some morning nookie. Damn, this is wild.

Has all his weight on her, all winded breathing in her ear...I apparently mate like a bear.
