It’s the weirdest thing, of course like most labs he loves water but boy he does NOT like getting in that shower. Pretty much have to drag him in and then he just sits there miserable. Tried colder water, tried hotter water, use dog shampoo, doesn’t seem to matter he hates it

Loves after though when he gets dried off

Every lab i have owned hates a bath/shower :)

I'm on my 4th one ... the only way they tolerate a bath is to have them fetch in the lake and bath them between retrieves

When I was in high school we had a chocolate lab. She would jump in the bayou in a heartbeat. But was scared to death of the water hose.

Weird, I’ve had two before this one I’ve done it with and they didn’t care

Now the water hose, I’ve had some that didn’t like it and some that try to catch every drop of water that comes out of that thing like their lives depended on it

As an owner and trainer if labs I can confirm this. Seems like you have to get them acclimated to this as pups. Also, my males tend to be more like little boys, they hate it. The females are a little better once you get them used to it.
They'll swim forever to get a duck but can't stand to get wet with a garden hose! Really funny sometimes, having to drag my male out in the yard to clean him up!

Me. My old lab will sleep in the rain and if you turn him loose he will end up in every puddle or pond he can find. Turn the hose or shower on and he hauls arse

Got the wife a lab pup when we first got married. I was going to make it a duck dog so would take it across the road and train it at the river. He was retrieving very well. Wife would give him a bath every time he went swimming he hated it. One day I threw the dummy out and that sonofabitch just looked at me like hell no He figured if he got in that water he was getting a bath Became a house dog after that

Get em one of these..

Shower peanut butter holder

I've got a boxer who was in the same boat as you, now she loves whenever she sees me putting peanut butter on it. Follows me straight to the shower

My lab will jump in any pond anywhere but turn the hose on him to give him a bath and he acts like I’m beating him.

110%

Mine is one step shy of being an otter. It's hard keeping her out of the water. BUT she can't stand the shower.

I was in the garage earlier and heard my wife raising hell with our chocolate. I look out the door, and he’s sudded up, bubbles flowing off of him as she yelled at him “here” with the hose still spraying. Finally had to go call him back to her and put his collar back on so she could wrangle him back to the hose. Fairly funny from my side. Now, you break out the towel to dry him off, he’s like a bucking bull enjoying every second of it.

This is some kind weird arse Lab DNA shite I guess because my YLF can have icicles hanging off her after making no telling how many retrieves in freezing water but runs like a thief from me stretching out a water hose.

Thought most retrievers hate hoses and showers. Standing water is another thing, though. My old Golden would do a running backflip into a 12" diameter mud puddle 1/2" deep.

Absolutely. My lab looks absolutely miserable as soon as she sees the towels and smells dog shampoo.

One of my golden doodles is visibly angry with me for hours after a bath. Will not look at me, if I walk near him he goes to another room. He always sleeps on my wife's side of the bed that night.

Next day back to normal
