Anyone ever use a Boykin Spaniel as a duck retriever?

My last was a lab but I’m having a hard time getting another one because I was so close to him.

My friend's boykin is the most worthless bird dog I've ever been around. Incredibly high energy dog with a great personality and disposition. Retrieving just hasn't worked out.

Yes. Not the best option, but an option.

Isn’t there a Boykin that’s missing somewhere in Louisiana and the owners have some delusional Facebook page about it?

My Boykin just turned 7. Great dog. Great on the ducks. I’ll never own a lab

Got a pup from choupiquesushi. Great dog. She picked up 20 ducks this year since that is all me and my son shot. She just made 1 in december. Did well despite me training her myself. Great for the hunting we do out of kayaks and a gheenoe.

My dog is 4.5 and has averaged 100+ ducks a season over the last 4 years. Most he’s gotten on a hunt is just over 30.

I'm on my second. If you hunt 10 people deep in open water situations, this probably isn't the breed for you. anything more reasonable than that you should be fine.

We've used one for 5 seasons and another our second for 2 year. I have yet to see a retrieve that they couldn't make due to their small size. They are little machines. plus they are great around the house/camp/boat/truck. I may be breeding my male and female in march/april, but a lot of my pups are spoken for at this time. My male has a litter due soon, but those too are all spoken for.
mine do fine in open water - female is only 27lbs so her vest acts like a water brake... and slows her down - rarely use vest.

It’s in Mathews Brake in Mississippi. South of Greenwood. I personally think the dog is dead.
The delusion of the Facebook page is amazing, plus the comments are entertaining. They’re getting called out more and more and nobody can give a logical explanation for anything.

That may be the funniest bag of birds I've ever seen given everything in the picture.
