I’m with you on this as a whole, but I know there are a few boykins that will stomp some labs. I’ve seen an English Cocker out work a low drive lab in the duck blind (marks only).

My point really wasn't about which breed is better. If someone wants a lab, then they should get a lab. If the want something else, then they should get something else.

But someone shouldn't bad mouth someone else's choice to validate their own choice.

Lonnie as the popularity of the breed rises, the bashing will grow louder

I know, but,

It really wasn't a Boykin vs Lab comment, it was any breed vs any other breed, ford vs chevy, coke vs Pepsi comment.

Are there labs that can be as poor as the best Boykin? Yes.

Are there Boykins that can be as good as the best labs? Of course not.

Many a man has been disinvited to our clubs for turning up with a sooner lab. Doesn't happen with Boykin Spaniel owners, because when they ask, they are told emphatically, NO.

Are you speaking fact or opinion?

Personally, I don't think there is anyway that anyone say something like that unequivocally.

Oh, that is fact, little buddy. Much like accepting mediocrity is what being a Gamecock fan is all about, accepting a Boykin Spaniel as your hunting partner just says "I really don't care" but I like to look the part.

So what you're saying is, you've hunted with ever Lab in the world and every Boykin? Because that's the only way you can really make that statement.

. Most FT dogs are smaller than most labs

I love bens logic of an average lab running circles around an Hrch or Mh Boykin. That’s like a team from the swac beating a big 10 team

True story about my 1st Boykin "Buddy". Me, my brother and some of my cousins were goofing around throwing rocks at the gravel pit at my grandparents place. Buddy was hanging around doing dog things. He saw us throwing rocks and to him, it really wasn't any different than a ball I guess. So I picked up a rather unusual rock and chucked it down the way. Then I said to the Dog, "Buddy, fetch it up." That son of a gun searched around for a couple of mins until he found the exact rock I had thrown (out of the thousands of ones there) and brought it to me. That dog had a good nose.

My friend's boykin is the most worthless bird dog I've ever been around. Incredibly high energy dog with a great personality and disposition. Retrieving just hasn't worked out.
there are equal numbers of other breeds with the same issues if not more there are reasons for their current meteoric rise in popularity and being cute isn't the driving force... but some unscrupulous breeders are out there.. just like every other breed. besides.. if you look at the boykins pass fail rate in hunt tests right now - stack that up against any other breed.. especially with owner trained and handled dogs.

To be fair there are plenty of worthless labs out there and even more worthless owners. I hunted with a Springer Spaniel for 6 years and other than break on Shot she did very well. Great dove dog too.

It should also be noted for coach dabos best friend that the face painting thing started long before the duck men and duck dynasty shows

In some periodicals with articles on east coast black duck hunters they were face painting in early 80s
