yes right at dusk
good idea to lean their habits but as the others have said you really need to wait until breeding is over before you evict them. They aren’t going to cause any more damage than they already have and honestly they are cool to have around

If you don't get a professional to get rid of them and clean up the shite, be sure to wear a respirator while cleaning up.
Histoplasmosis is a disease caused by an infection with a fungus known as Histoplasma capsulatum, which is common in the environment, most frequently in association with bird or bat droppings. Some people also refer to the disease as "cave disease." The infection can cause a lung disease similar to pneumonia in some people.

quote:wait until after breeding/birthing season That’s the first piece of advice.
So now I'm asking the good folks of the OB. WTF do I do about these Gdamn BATS??
Then use the method discussed earlier with the netting/come/funnel. That’s next.
Third is build a bay box. Good luck!

It's pretty dark when they come back, and when they and go out in the morning. They were under my office and made a racket when going and arriving. You can probably hear them through the chimney. 30 minutes before dark should be plenty.
I loved watching them, but their poop is a big problem.

Build bat boxes outside. Seal up the holes when they leave, you can get mesh to prevent entry through the fireplace.
You want the bats around, they decimate biting insects and will leave you alone. You don't want them shitting in your fireplace though!

By the time I got there yesterday evening they were already buzzing around. I didn’t actually see where they emerged from but I found 2 missing mortar joints in the chimney that I’m pretty sure is their portal. It’s about to be on

I wonder if you couldn’t just seal the hole and put a bat box over it? Nothing wrong with bats outside of your house at all

I'd love it if this worked, but no luck so far with mine. Eventually it might, it took a few years for purple martins to start using the house I put up for them.
Cool story - In 1929 a fishing lodge owner built the largest bat house in the world in Sugarloaf Key:
Then he paid to have a whole bunch of bats shipped down by train and put them in the house. The idea was that they would eat mosquitos and help keep malaria in check. The bats flew off instead, and were never seen again.

The bats being around isn't the issue. I agree that it's a good thing. But the stench emitting from that chimney is brutal. You can smell it in the camp. I would rather have to wear Off and deal with mosquitoes than deal with that smell. It will drive you bat shite crazy

The point of entry at my house is my 3 attic vents. I'm grateful that the builder put wire mesh inside the louvers to keep them out of the actual attic space....but thats where they hang during the day. Its amazing how many are in there...but I can go check around 9:00 in the evening and they are all gone. After breeding season, I'm evicting them though. The poo is out of control.

You furnish the #8’s and the Wild Turkey. I yell pull and you let em’ out of the chute, one at a time.
Oops, I made a mistake. I think it was supposed to be Old Charter!

Tried that with my father-in-law's barn pigeons. They fold their wings to dive through the hay sling port and then drop down as they come out before opening their wings and taking off in all directions. Heck of a challenge and a lot of fun but definitely a low scoring game.

Since it’s not bought… either renegotiate cost or have current homeowners deal with it.

No, he did not mention a bat infestation of any kind.
He should have definitely found a bat infestation. His company may be on the hook for the eradication bill.
I would do some serious research… many bats have federal protections. You don’t want to buy yourself a much bigger legal problem.
Other than that, I really really like the China VRBO idea.

Old house my wife had before we got married had a horrible bat problem. You have to find the hole that they are getting in and out of to start.
Build yourself a bat house, and mount up a tree/pole about 15’ up facing the morning sun. Go to a Home Depot by a pvc check valve about 1.5” in diameter, and some great stuff foam spray. Then basically put the valve in the hole, insular around it, and wait. We had them cleared out in about 2 days doing this.

My Lake house had prob 200...always had an odd smell we could never figure out. One day the bug guy came out to spray. Poor guy found the entry point with spray as bats came swarming out. The poor guy was dodging them and squealing like a schoolgirl.
Tried several methods and ran a bunch off but not all. You have to close openings or they will come back. Hire a professional it will see you time and headache
