More specifically in Louisiana? Sitting in this tree not seeing deer, doing some calling for the hell of it. I’ve never called one in down here. I did, however, call in an absolute stud last year in Missouri. Sitting on the ground around 10:30 my buddy and I got bored and decided to do some calling which I thought was a little much because we were shaking saplings, breaking branches, grunting, raking leaves, etc. Few minutes later this giant pops up like 15 yards behind us. It was too thick for a bow shot and he never came into the lane within range. Watched him skirt the edge of the lane and pop out into it about 100 yards away. It was an awesome experience, but would’ve been way more awesome if he would’ve given me a shot. That was day 1 of our trip, and I never saw that deer again.

Are you talking about rattling? If so, yes. It's the most exciting thing I've ever done. Especially when you can see them coming in from far off.

Rattling, grunting, bleating…
I’ve been doing a combination of them this morning trying to make it sound like bucks are fighting over a doe. It’s not working lol

I have called a buck in twice with a primos doe bleat can. Unfortunately I didn’t get a shot at either buck. One was during the rut. One was after the rut and the buck actually had a doe with him. Haven’t rattled too much. Never had any luck just grunting.

I've used a bleat can and grunt call for 25 years, never called on in. I often bleat and grunt with deer around me, they never pay attention to it.

Yes - but only young bucks...rattling and grunting - stomping

I have had two deer come to a grunt. The rest either ignored it or jumped out of their skin.

Yes. I have grunted in a 130in 8pt that came in bristled up looking for a fight
And killed a 17in 10pt this year that walked across the powerline at about 150yd and was ina dip so only saw him 4steps before he went in the woods blew my grunt as loud as I could and he 3min later he popped back out 25 yards closer looking right at me.
I never leave camp without it (bone collector-grunt/bleat/weeze) I have fawn bleated does in with it and stopped deer with a snort wheeze.
But if you look at how many times I have used it versus what I think it works it’s prolly like .00350%
Also while I have grunted and seen deer act like they didn’t hear me I have never seen it be scared of the call. And I started snort wheezing after I saw two small 4 points snort weeze and a spike that was 75yards away bristle up and run towards them. I was always scared that only big deer acted like that. They got all riled up then went walking away together eating acorns.
It works 99% of the time that it works

I’ve called in very young bucks in south MS rattling. In my experience a mature buck is gonna circle downwind and check it out before you ever see him. Works much better with a balanced ratio where there’s competition for does and the rut has a much more defined peak. That’s my opinion on why it’s successful in other parts of the country where deer aren’t as skittish/pressured and you can see them coming from a thousand yards.

plenty of times with an estrous bleat...never with a buck grunt (although i've stopped them or turned them around)

My biggest buck came straight to one of those Estrous Cans. 25 yards.

Plenty of younger bucks as well.

I’ve rattled, grunted and snort weezed in several deer in the Midwest. Now in Mississippi I rattled once a few years ago and I think that 4 point is still running.

Not in Louisiana, but I’ve called in and killed mature bucks in Mississippi and Kansas. I snort-wheezed a mature Mississippi 8 pt and he came running right at me across an oak flat. I shot him at 30 yards.
Rattled up a 150” in Kansas and shot him at 10 yards.

Ive grunted at a small buck crossing a pipeline at 300 or so yards and he stopped in his tracks and trotted straight to me looking..

Ive also hit a doe bleat and 10-20 seconds later a spike walked out on the pipeline walking towards me looking. Could have been coincidence but it was pretty cool.

I’ve probably bought 6-7 grunt calls over the years ,only thing that ever responded was a big old hog I shot.
I’ve tried rattling a bunch, only thing ever responded was a spike,he came in at a dead run and stopped under my tree, looked all around for the action.

I think it takes the right conditions and seeing them helps because you can see how they react.

I've grunted in a buck I shot in Illinois. He came from out of nowhere from a place I didn't expect at 2:15 in November. I had just gotten into the stand, it was warm out, and I had just sat down to cool off from the walk in and didn't have my jacket on from walking in.

I heard leaves crunch and there he was at 35 yards behind me not 5 mins after I sat down. He kept walking on the trail angled away at me. I got my bow ready, release on, and then grabbed my grunt. I figured what did I have to lose he was 50-75 yards at this point. I grunted and he'd stop, look back towards me, pause, then keep walking. He did this 3-4 times, at which time I figured I had way over called. Sure enough, son of a gun turned around and came back. Shot him at 20 yards broadside. I can't believe he didn't see me with all the grunting I did.

Best 15 mins of deer hunting I've had.
