Zach Holland told ESPN Radio in St. Louis last week that he placed a golf ball in the hole on the par-3 fourth at the course before the start of a membership tournament. When he finished the third hole with his group, Holland then told his playing partners that he needed to take a phone call regarding his mortally sick grandmother. He said he'd tee off first, and then join the group on the green later in order to keep up pace of play.
By the time he joined his group again on the green, he said he told them that he "thinned" the tee shot but wasn't sure where it went. The group then found the ball in the cup, assumed he had hit a hole-in-one, and started celebrating.
Eventually, staff reviewed security footage that showed Holland driving near the fourth green well before his scheduled tee time. He then admitted to faking the hole-in-one, and resigned his membership.
"There's no excuse for what I did, and I was completely in the wrong," Holland said. "There's really no motivation. Just complete stupidity, and we were giving two shots back to the field and that's not an excuse. There's no excuse for what happened."
Holland was in the first group of the member tournament, which included a hole-in-one prize pot.

re: What’s the dumbest golf shot you ever attempted that actually worked?

Great but sloooow.
Last week at Les Vieux Chenes golf course. I was behind a tree on hole #15 for my 3rd shot. 125 yards out I decided to try to go over a tree instead of punching under it knowing good and well I could not hit my pw that high.. Hit the shot and it went thru the tree not touching a leaf or branch and landed 10' from the flag. Made the birdie and should have quit right there because I stunk up the last 3 holes.
Nope, still waiting.

"Some people. however, are simply just not good and will never be "good" at golf. I'm sure you know plenty of dudes in your life who play a lot of golf but are still terrible and no amount of lessons will make them not terrible."
That's me right there. But love this game so much.

Played Friday afternoon for $71. You are correct about the greens. I thought I read somewhere they were primo but that wasn't the case. Glad I didn't pay full price.

Played Cane Row over a month ago. The greens were great, I need to head that way soon.

I had a 2018 GMC that went thru 2 transmissions 6 speed (needed a 3rd before I traded it in) and about 3 water pumps before 300,000 miles.
My brother had a 2020 that went thru 2 transmissions(10 speed) before 150,000 miles. Also need a transmission before he traded it in.

I think the greens will be great. Was suppose to go back and play Tuesday but I was told the front 9 was closed.

Played yesterday morning. It's amazing how well it drains. Of course the ponds were overfilled and sometimes extended to the fairways but the greens were fine(still had punch marks but rolled true). Some of the sand traps had water in them but most were dry and had been raked before we started(9am). Was supposed to go to Copper Mill but they were closed.

You have to watch the "no tee times available" Two times I went and there were maybe 4 cars in the parking lot and they would not let me play because of "no tee times available". The 1st time, Steve let me play, the 2nd time he was not there and bascially told me to kick rocks. Did pass there yesterday and was suprised to see at least 20 cars in the parking lot.

I will go out there one more time.
Stonebridge in Gretna was pretty bad yesterday. Base on expectations, Atchafalaya the last couple of times I played.
Greens are just as good as BREC'S best but slow.
I'm trying to get out of work early Thursday to see the Luke/Brown group which tees off at 12:42pm, fingers crossed.
Announcers make all shots seem difficult. One of the things I hate about them. Then if someone sticks it close from 100 yards out in the middle of the fairway, "Wow did you see how great of a shot was that"
#2 is not to bad to me(short hitter so laying up is always my option). But when I'm teeing off #5, I'm already thinking about 10 thru 12 and how bad it's gonna be. ??

I was told years ago by the super(Steve I think) that LSU agronomy department was not allowed to touch the golf course. Maybe they wanted it to fail. But also told that the course could only be a golf course because the person who donated the land didn't want it to be a parking lot.
I haven't played it in a while because I went there one day and they told me that they didn't have any tee times available. Only had maybe 10 cars in the parking lot and maybe that many on the course. I sat there for 20 minutes to see if anyone else would show up to fill those tee times, nobody except the 3 guys I was supposed to play with. This was the second time it happened to us but the 1st time Steve told them to let us on. May go back before the close just for the sake of it.

I work in Lafayette 3 days a week and always pass by Jay and Lionel Herbert Municipal Golf Course. I noticed every Monday they are closed for maintenance. I decided to play 9 holes yesterday and the course is in good shape. They even had a guy raking the sand traps and another one going around and filling the sand bottles on every tee box at 4pm. BREC could learn alot from them about maintaining a golf course. The only problem I saw out there was to many divots on the greens but that's on the player's part. Also had a worker going around in the fairways putting sand in the divot but that's should have been filled by the player too.

Played in November, greens were so bad that I quit after 9 holes. I hope they recover because it's one of my favorite course when conditions are good.
