Nonetheless---who remembers Tom's in Empire pre Katrina??? That was one of may favorite places in the state to eat. He shucked oysters that no doubt somebody in his family harvested, great steaks and fried seafood. Tom had a great place.

Toms was amazing too. Tom’s Plac, the E on the building was down for a long time.

There used to be a Popeyes buffet in Belle Chase. Not sure if it’s still there. GOAT

Another vote for Fatboys. You eat a whole poboy, you getting the "itis" for sure. Instant nap.

actually prefer Venice Marina over Cypress

this x 1000

reading through both threads, i think you got it covered.
Salvos, Black Velvet, seafood baked potato at VM.
of course, new orleans original daiquiris up the road, and then a short ride to iguanas daiquiris each day after fishing.

why has nobody mentioned having a nice relaxing time having a cold beer at the DEN??

Big fat poboy from Salvo's in Belle Chasse is where it's at. If you're driving in from Denham, hit up Middendorf's for the catfish.

Man, I live in Belle Chasse and think Salvo’s is overrated as hell. Their poboy bread is awful

Thanks everyone. Here's to hoping to get on the bite. We already delayed this trip a month because the guide said it was slim biting. Gonna definitely try black velvet because it seems like it was the most mentioned. But I saved all the places mentioned in my maps so I can have an idea where to eat.

Many good recommendations for local cuisine above. Salvo's and Black Velvet seem to fit your request the best.

To add a different spin, I'll suggest Tan Dinh in Gretna. It's the best Vietnamese on the Westbank, which is full of great Vietnamese places due to the high population density of Vietnamese on the Westbank. It's also conveniently located on Belle Chasse Hwy on your way down, or on your way back up once you've had your fill of seafood.

Good luck with the fishing, I hope this cold front passes in time and you fill the boat.

We kept a 30'er across the street from Toms PLace for a fishing season... We fished the Lump out of Empire Jetties. ATE there, many a night... Mr. Tom could shuck oysters like NO other... I use to sit at the bar and talk to him... I loved his stories of the OLDEN days... Ribeyes are AWESOME...Don't know how many ribeyes I eat there.

His Daughter who worked there was Playboy Model BEAUTIFUL....
