We're going down Fishing out of Venice Monday and Tuesday and was wondering if there were any hidden gems on the way down (coming from Atlanta). I don't mean like famous New Orleans places or chains. I mean like Boudreaux's craw tater and daiquiri's out on the hwy that's good.

I grew up in Denham and usually make the trek to Baton Rouge to see family but never been down that way. TIA.

Fatboys Seafood in Manchac. Don't get suckered in to the tourist trap of Middendorf's. Fatboys is one of the best hidden gems around.

ETA: Make sure you get the seafood potato at Venice Marina when you are there.

LA 23 BBQ, Black Velvet, the shrimp platter at Cypress Cove. The gas station in the Curve before you get to Empire (I forget the name). I heard Changes by Ellzeys has an awesome breakfast.

Great list. Black Velvet on the way down, actually prefer Venice Marina over Cypress once down there

All mentioned are excellent. From out of town would do Salvos as you can have BBQ anywhere but it is very good. Thompson’s in Port Sulphur is nothing fancy but the food is good as well. Changes in Venice isn’t cheap but good food

Who drives from Atlanta to Venice through Manchac?

Nonetheless---who remembers Tom's in Empire pre Katrina??? That was one of my favorite places in the state to eat. He shucked oysters that no doubt somebody in his family harvested, great steaks and fried seafood.

Tom had a great place.

toms was the best oysters I’ve ever had. It was small but you always got a bonus raw oyster and everything was great.

Camps had spectacular boiled shrimp. I remember eating there two nights before Katrina was good
