No love for the .444? Mine is an H&R with a Redfield 3x9.

Exact same setup, and it gets used as much as any other rifle I own.

the 35 whelen is better than the 444 and the 45-70 in every single way, and its not close, so there's no reason to buy either if you're looking to buy a primitive rifle

I have the CVA Apex in 35 Whelen.
Nikon Prostaff 5 2.5x10x40 with the BDC scope.
DNZ 1 Piece Mount.
Federal Premium 225gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets.

I have been a bow hunter for a while and just got this combo last year. I found myself hunting with it quite a bit this year. Guess I'm getting old and spoiled to a box blind.

Except for when Walmart had Marlins 45-70 for $200. That’s why I have one

I do need a scope tho. And chop the barrel some and thread for my hybrid

Marlin 1895 45-70 with Skinner peep sight. Because I like to hunt in very thick woods where the farthest shot is 75 yards. I also use it to spot and stalk hogs. On the rare occasion that I hunt a pipeline or field, I use my 308 or 6.5 Grendel.

I have the 35 Whelen with a Nikon Pro Staff 3x9x50. I missed a couple deer with it at 150-200 yards. Thought it was me, but come to find out the rail that came mounted on the gun new had worked it's way loose. I loc-tited those and killed 1 deer with it last year.

I like hunting with it because it's such a short little compact gun.

I’m taking that scope mount that it comes with off and putting a rail so I put decent scope rings. To much recoil to trust that one piece scope mount
