Its not fast at all. Looks like the 140gr stuff is around 2650 or so. Thats nothing spectacular. Its a slow poke compared to something like .270

I shoot the 129 grain Hornady American white tail. Zero issues. People just like to hate on the round.
Hornady ELD-X Precision Hunter for me. My 270 hardly comes out of the gun case anymore.

“Yeah but it doesn’t shed it speed at longer ranges or get impacted by wind as much at the longer ranges, all my shots are 150yardss!!”
“ but it does it with a short action caliber and doesn’t use as much powder, no I don’t reload or shoot more than 3shots a year”

Yeah it's 200fps slower than the OPs .06
Seems like this round has taken on a life of its own.

We could talk about the speed stuff all day.
If your 6.5 creed is only shooting 2600fps either you got a slow barrel, weak rounds, short barrel or a broken chrono.
Its not a magic round. None of them are.

Much slower, with a much skinnier and lighter bullet.

And here we have a thread full of people who found out the hard way that the laws of physics still apply to it. Its a wonderful deer caliber, but you still need to use good hunting bullets for it to perform as a good hunting caliber.

Exactly.
Too many people try using this gun with 123gr ballistics tips and then complain that it doesn’t give good blood trails.
Never mind the fact also than so many shoot to sight in and then never touch the gun again until it’s time to go to camp.

I'm just looking at random 140gr offerings for hunting rounds. Most are in the 2650-2725 range. ~2600 would probably be what most people get out of 22" barrels. No?

Essentially it is the current fad and an excuse to buy another gun even though you may already have a couple of other guns that will perform equally as well of better. Hype in the outdoor media will sell any shiny new toy and the buyer will feel obligated to defend having spent the money on something that sounded better than it really was.
If trucks weren't so expensive we would all have to be building additions to the garage space, even though we can only drive one at a time. (97 Ram 1500 4wd, 2005 Ram 2500 2wd, 2006 Ram 3500 4wd Dually, 2012 Ram 2500 4wd, NEED MORE!)

You people who are hunting with the creedmore should be shooting minimum 140gr bullets, preferably 150+ to realize where the 6.5's shine on game. Its not a super long range hunting round, it's a great normal range hunting round.

I bought the Savage Axis 6.5 because I was curious and it was only $199 with the scope. I got Federal 140 grain soft points to group well and hunted with it last year.
The first doe was a boom flop shoulder shot. The second was a single lung quartering shot and she ran about 50 yards through the young pine thicket. The blood trail was easy to follow. I was satisfied with the round.
I would reccomend buying it in a gun you really like though. This year I went back to my old Model 70 in .270 because I like the feel and look of my old gun best. This year I got a doe and a buck with no trailing work needed.

Real talk
If the 6.5 creedmoor didn’t have a cool name would it really be as popular as it is?
.300 blackout also

Creedmoor is a “cool” name that sells ammo and guns by itself?

I get 2850 with a 130gr without pressure signs so it could go faster.
But you arent getting 200 more fps from a 200gr 30-06.

All you people bashing the 6.5CM literally either have zero idea what you are talking about or cannot shoot. I have killed well over 25 deer since I have owned my CM and have not lost a singe deer. 90% have fallen in their tracks. The few than ran didnt run over 20yds and were spewing blood like a faucet. Outside of neck shots, all shots were directly in the shoulder (not behind) to induce maximum expansion. I've gotten so confident with it that all my 30 cal rifles literally collect dust now. Killed 2 doe this weekend, both neck shots. First at 175yds, second one at 140yds. You people need to learn to shoot before bashing a gun. 95% of the time its the Indian, not the arrow. I'm shooting a 130gr Accubond hand load that chronos at 2960fps.

What a waste. Neck roasts are the best.

Used my CM 6.5 for the first time this past week. Hornady ELD-X 143g. Hit dead center of a nice 9 point's heart and he got about 30-40 yards before dropping. It's probably overkill for what I'm using it for but I don't have any complaints.

When it’s the only fricking ammo available on the shelves everywhere, yes it sells itself. I almost bought one today, until my lovely bride reminded me I had a box full of ammo in storage.
