So you need to know the caliber name before giving your opinion?

Does anyone hunt with dogs with anything other than a 30-30?

Sure. Bolt actions are equally popular on dog hunts. Shotguns used to be the standard.

430 yards with a 7-08. Grown men can make fun of it all they want, but it’s a phenomenal round.

7mm-08 and 243 both catch lots of shite for reasons I still can't understand.

They're effective, low recoil, accurate rounds that do lots of damage. They can be used by any hunter of any age. They can kill anything you're ever going to see in the South at reasonable range.

Yet they're somehow "kid" guns. It's bizarre and just weird that anyone would hate those kinds of rounds.

They're basically in the same class as 308 and 6.5, but they don't have NATO attached to them and they don't have a hype machine behind them. They just have tried and true stories of hunters successes with them, especially in the southern U.S. where you're rarely ever going to take a shot more than 300 yds.

My theory is that all the 7 Mag, 300 Mag and 338 Mag dudes who make fun of smaller calibers for fricking white tails are over compensating for something else.

What I don't understand is I've been hunting almost exclusively with a mini-14 shooting varmint loads at deer since I was 14, and not once has the deer ever turned to me and said "bullet wasn't big enough" after I shot it.

They always boom flop from a shredded heart/lungs.

Jack, I don’t recall the last time I’ve seen something negative about 7mm-08. It’s a very popular and well liked round.
I had a good hunting buddy that shot hundreds of deer with a .243. He said it wasn’t a beginners round, it was for a real rifleman.

I don't know of a seasoned, experienced hunter who thinks of the 7-08 as a kid's gun. As far as the OB, I've always got the impression the OB's "official deer rifle" was a Tikka in 7-08.

You can also shoot .22 caliber varmint hunting bullets in the 30-30 with an accelerator.

The 125 gr HP makes an excellent deer bullet for kids and people who are recoil sensitive

I take my son's 7-08 in the woods all the time over my .270 but I still like my .270.

Don’t hate it.
You have a third grade nickname for it. You started a thread about it not being a super cartridge when anyone with a brain already knows it's not a super cartridge. You hate it for some weird, irrational reason. It kills things just as dead as the next cartridge.

I doubt it kills just as dead as the next cartridge. I doubt it’d hold up well against the .30-06, 308, etc. And certainly not a Death Ray like the 257 WBY. ??

I will guarantee more deer are crippled by people that are scared shitless of the recoil from their magnums than are crippled by Creedmoors.

If you are crippling deer with a Creedmoor you are either making poor choices in ammo or you can’t shoot for shite

Meh, give the round time to catch up.

30-30 only good to 100 yards bro. We are talking about 1000 yard shots on whitetail deer thru the swamp.
