How long do they estimate before they attempt the "dome"?

I heard it would take 2-3 weeks to fabricate. No estimate to implement.

Are they already using skimmers anywhere or is this the type of oil that they wont work with?

They were using skimmers, but the current sea state doesn't allow efficient skimming operations.

And I assume they will attempt the fires after the sea calms down again?

That's your assumption... Not sure what obstacles might arise.

Within the next 48 hours is my understanding. No official confirmation. The Arabs are working on it.

Skimmers aren't being used at this time due to poor sea conditions for them to work and the Arabs are in the way.

Burning will start again when the seas calm down and the Arabs light them on fire.

It's extremely windy out there. Even the Miss River has substantial wave action with whitecaps several miles inland.

Edit: just looked at a pic I took...maybe not so much in the way of whitecaps but it still was very turbulent.

I've been wondering what this chemical dispersal agent is made of. Does anyone know?

Good read on dispersants.

and

oilspillsolutions.org

The second link had a lot of good information on how dispersants work, what they are made of and different types used.

Another good read.

....bitch loves the camera.

After one of the more recent hurricanes, our friend was high up in the NG and was in a helicopter with the crew that included Landrieu surveying the damage. He said that she actually stated that she was looking for a good spot to take pictures of her .. and that it was like "no, not there, find somewhere worse".

It doesn't take a person with a Phd to figure that out at this point.

Its pretty obvious.

Someone had posted earlier this am that it ws inside info that the flow had been stemmed by partial close of the BOV. It was someone who I don't think was jerking around ... and is knowledgeable about this situation.

This info was spread from the company operating the ROVs to other companies involved.

This was based on getting the electric motors in the ROVs more torque to operate the BOP.
I don't know if this worked yet, but I am sure if it did it would be the top news on TV.

Actually, the way the article reads, to me at least, it sounds like Mary Fatty Landrieu said that quote

I sell and rent hydraulic torque wrenches used on the BOP's. This afternoon I put our biggest wrench (50,000 ftlbs) on rent with a client who is going to take it down on a sub to the BOP. The tool is a beast. Weighs about 120lbs and has a 2-1/2" square drive for the sockets they are using.

Latest USF trajectory model still has it staying out of Barataria for the most part... but who knows how reliable this model is, especially considering the fact that the daily spillage numbers are pretty ambiguous.

That is a beast. Biggest I have is maybe 750ft-lbs.

So they think they can get the ROVs to use this tool?

So the only real problem is a lack of proper torque to turn some bolts?
