Likely germanic, but...
The Louisiana departments of Health and Hospitals, and Wildlife and Fisheries, announced today they will be closing select fishing areas and oyster harvesting beds as a precautionary response to the oil spill in the Gulf.
LDWF Secretary Robert Barham announced the closure of both recreational and commercial fishing in Zone 1, excluding the coastal boundaries of Lake Borgne, Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurapas. This closure will take place at 6 p.m. this evening. The Deepwater Horizon drilling rig accident has resulted in a significant release of oil into the offshore waters of southeast Louisiana. Oil has the potential to impact fish and other aquatic life in portions of Louisiana's coastal waters.
"I signed this emergency closure today as a proactive effort to prevent any oil-tainted fish, shrimp or crab from being caught and thus consumed," said LDWF Secretary Robert Barham. "Now is the time to act as we see what the impacts may be to Louisiana's fragile ecosystems."

I was down in Golden Meadow today and was amazed by the amount of shrimp boats going out. The wind was blowing 20 mph. You cant tell me these shrimper arent worried. They opened the season 1 month early to let these guys go out and catch what they can. The problem is, is that the shrimp are still too small to harvest, and the DWF know this....it's all a game for the gov.

Some of the other interweb sites I frequent are talking about the pipe and wellhead getting blasted by abrasives coming out of the leaks. One site said that if they lose the well head then the leak could get much larger.

Perhaps the spill will relieve pressure on the fish populations and next year will be an abundant population of all species.
I dont believe this but im trying to make sunshine out of shite.
I fish the east side of the river every summer. Great trips for trout and red snapper in the same trip. I'll be missing them. Just got the motors serviced and the boat was ready for may. Thanks BP, Jindal and Obama.

Just your standard sized $5/lb shrimp.

You sound like those arse clowns in Nola who were blaming Bush for bombing the levees...
I'm sure Obama and Jindal were in the same black hawk when they flew over and bombed the Horizon too??

Not at all. But you have to admit this is Obamas Katrina. I think Bobby's usually the smartest person in a conversation but he and obama waited too long to act.

I'm used to fishing the Na Kika rig... It's completely covered. And the tuna bite was on fire over the past several weeks..

In fairness to Obama and Jindal, the damage was severely underestimated up until a couple days ago.
It may still be underestimated.

In fairness to Obama and Jindal, Until they stop the well from leaking there is nothing that can be done to help or mitigate this.
Chemical dispersements, oil booms, burning etc is not gonna be effective and a drop in the bucket to the problem.
Until they stop the leak trying to contain or disburse the oil is just photo ops, public relations and waste of money.

By looking at that map, Black Bay and all of Breton Sound could be fricked
