I personally love Honore and would like to see him in a leadership position somewhere important.

He certainly came into N.O. after Katrina and got things moving.......sometimes you have to unpucker a little and let the blood start to flow again.

Per New York Times:

"BP had to halt its ambitious effort to plug its stricken oil well in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday afternoon when engineers saw that too much of the drilling fluid they were injecting into the well was escaping along with the leaking crude oil.

A technician at the BP command center said that pumping of the fluid had to be stopped temporarily while engineers were revising their plans, and that the company hoped to resume pumping by midnight, if federal officials approved.

The technician, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters, said the problem was not seen as serious. “We’re still quite optimistic,” he said, but cautioned: “It is not assured and its not a done deal yet. All of this will require some time.”

You think they might be changing to OBM? Why else would they be waiting on federal approval?

How come on the live feed, mud is still escaping from the BOP ? Looks like they are still pumping to me.

What they have pumped in is being pushed out by well pressure, I guess. Either that, or NYT got it all wrong. I think the latter is more likely.

You know something. That's good enough for me.

Come on, please let this be the solution.

NEW ORLEANS - Marine scientists have discovered a massive new plume of what they believe to be oil deep beneath the Gulf of Mexico, stretching 22 miles (35 kilometers) from the leaking wellhead northeast toward Mobile Bay, Alabama.

The discovery by researchers on the University of South Florida College of Marine Science's Weatherbird II vessel is the second significant undersea plume recorded since the Deepwater Horizon exploded on April 20.

The thick plume was detected just beneath the surface down to about 3,300 feet (1,000 meters), and is more than 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) wide, said David Hollander, associate professor of chemical oceanography at the school.

so if they stop pumping does it mean all of the mud gets pushed out and they start from scratch?

maybe what we're seeing is the mud coming back up because they turned off the pressure

this is why they are pumping in the first place, to get the oil that is deep beneath the gulf

per BP on CNN TV

they werent pumping since last night, they stopped and just watched it overnight and refilled the mud. They might start pumping again tonight. They havent been pumping mud for 16 hours now

what we have been watching is the mud escaping from what they pumped yesterday

I take from that some of the mud at least did go down the well.....I was worried that it would just all immediately go out of the broken riser/bop

the way he is talking that is the way it is done and it was nothing out of the ordinary, he is from BP though so I find it hard to trust him. All of the experts on CNN all day have been describing the videos of them pumping and talking like it was going all day

That means they got one hell of a lot of mud down there, then, while they were pumping. Isn't that good news?
