Do you think they are trying to get a read on the opaqueness in order to tell if it is oil or mud? I am scratching my head looking for reasons why you would stick a wrench into that flow.

I believe it was a crude method too see if there was oil mixed in with the mud. The mud would not have stuck to the wrench by itself, but oil mixed with mud would have. What made me think of this is when they beat it on the side of the riser to try and knock it off. After every attempt to knock it off they brought it to the camera for insection. Just my belief.

That makes a lot of sense.

It also seemed to have rope wrapped around it. Maybe they were looking at what color it stained.

if the way these "experts" (and i use that term loosely) check to see if the solution billowing out of the leak is oil or mud is to stick a wrench into it and to see what color it turns, we are in for a world of hurt.

Seems like it might be a fairly quick way to get an answer to a question.

I guess they could wait until they get the proper measuring equipment in, sink it, raise it back up, then analyze it - or stick a wrench in front of it.

If they can make the initial determination from the wrench, then go for it.

Sometimes the best method is the simplist (and most primitive) one.

inept at this point. Talk that he is retiring soon, may be past his time and he is not leading like we need right now. Need someone a lot more aggressive.

This guy was calling for the President to declare this as a federal disaster weeks ago. Maybe tomorrow we will reach that status? I don't know much about the difference it will make and read some stuff about what it takes to declare it on the FEMA site(I know that is a 4 letter word), but Honore was saying how much more aid can be accessed.
