I don't know. Maybe they mean they will inject the junk shot directly into the riser and not use the 3 inch feed pipes. I really don't know.
Seems like they'd want to do the junk shot on the inside of the BOP so that it would, you know, seal up the leaks.

I've been looking at a robot installing what looks like a gauge--definitely not the riser.
Cool, that's a different feed than the one I was watching.

If they stopped pumping 16 hrs ago as per CNN then they must have gotten a hell of a lot of mud down hole.

Wait. They're saying that the the ops have been halted for 16hrs now because BP is out of mud. WTF?

I don't think there's any way they could have pumped that much mud that quickly. The prevailing theories are that they are prepping to do a junk shot and/or they are trying to determine how much mud they were able to force down the well.

No. Bp was not out of mud.
Posted on 5/27/10 at 5:56 pm to ThatsAllSheWrote
They said BP stopped to reevaluate and set up for next step on mini junk shot and pump more mud then.
Posted on 5/27/10 at 6:04 pm to Oyster
BP says they r pumping again and pumping fibers in it and increasing pimp rate. BP says they are doing best they can communicating with public but they are focused on project.

BP COO just said that they are finding that too much mud is escaping out of the riser. They "need to make adjustments". Unfortunately it appears to me that BP is beginning the process of slowly letting the world know the top kill isn't going to work.

i think we're screwed till the relief wells are finished. that's what happened in 79. 9 months after the leak started in 200ft of water

This is what I got from the Doug Suttles presser.
They pumped 15,000 gallons of mud yesterday of the 50,000 gallons on hand. Pumped from 1:00 to 10:30 PM. They stopped pumping "to assess" and (mainly I think) becasue a huge amount was escaping from the kinked riser. They are considering a junk shot to try to plug orifices at the kink. If successfull this with increase the portion of pumped mud which goes down the well. When they pump again it will be with a slightly heavier mud (18ppg in lieu of 16ppg) and a huge volume.
Future efforts include "top hat" on LMRP as well as BOP on BOP (with LMRP). Final and permanent solution is the relief wells, which continue to be drilled through all this.

Ok, ThatsAllSheWrote, I owe you an apology for both of those comments. I am sorry.
Please understand that this is not a casual matter for many people, including some that are on this board. The future course of this State and, to some degree, our country MAY turn on what happens here. Accordingly, I am not very tolerant of quick pessimism.
That said, my comments were juvenile and wrong. I hope you will accept my apology. I will delete them if I can figure out how to do so.

I agree with the above poster who said BP is stringing us along....I have lost any and all faith in them and truely believe nothing is going to work until the relief well is done. 8 more months to go of this crap. :hangsheadindisbeliefandfeelslikecrying:
