When I was in 8th grade my soon to be HS basketball team had a really good team from my 8th grade to like my 10th grade maybe.. And the games used to be packed. The fire marshal had to come a few times and they had to open up the cafeteria and air the games on the channel one TVs. The team used to come out to aint nothing but a g thing. They used to have a section called the dog pound and it was a group of dudes.. A few had a brother playing and some of their friends.. Games used to look like a Dr Dre video... Crazy shite. There would be fights with opposing team fans, it would get wild. If it happened... Well, it wouldn't happen today because it would be all over social media. There were a game or two where there were gun shots in the parking lot..

There was one game where the teams got into a fight and fans jumped in. Our DJ came running from behind his booth with a pipe he got off the bleachers.. It was an all out brawl and that was the point the school decided to enforce what music was to be played.. They banned the dog pound from the games and beefed up security... So when I see that, I just see some teenagers acting like a bunch of teenagers.

There's a difference between celebrating and aggression towards the opposing team/fans.

I have a social behavior theory I call GAT (Group a-hole Theory). It's basically that as a group grows, it becomes more and more likely that an a-hole will be included who screws things up for everyone.

All that said, those kids are in the former group, but it's inevitable that it attracts some a-hole(s) (whether part of the group or opposed to them) who decide to take it up a notch.

Absolutely, especially when you are dealing with teenagers. Teenagers are the absolute worst.

My mom drove a school bus for many many years. At times over 50 kids on the bus, high school and elementary. She said she learned very early to control her bus she had to control one kid and at the beginning of every year she pin pointed that one kid (a HS student) she said could either lead a riot or keep it all under control. She would get on his good side and if the bus broke down or there was something going on she needed to get off.. She would call him up and ask him to keep things under control for her.

But on days that person would get on amped up, within seconds he could have the whole bus going nuts. She said she would never fuss or yell at that one. Just pull him to the side and just say "come on.. just get me through the next 20 mins". From time to time she would get them something. A candy, bag of chips.. whatever.. You can have 49 kids and it just takes adding that one to create chaos.

I assume football (or any sport, but manly football because the size of the teams) coaches do something similar. You don't have to get through the whole team, you just have to get through those 4 or 5 players, but on the other side.. All it takes is losing 1 or 2 of those players for shite to unravel.

That's not so bad. The pointless fighting and gunfire three seconds afterward, however...
