Agreed!! Back in the day if you wanted to be entertained, you'd read a book or beat an irish to a pulp. Now kids just want to myspace and tinder each other. It's despicable.

You nailed it

The issue is pretty much every genre and niche is saturated these days. So it's very hard to gain a following if you are new. The growth will only go to already established channels

I laugh at my 16 year old cousin who thinks he can make it as a gaming youtuber and twitch streamer. Totally not saturated market there.

Same with tech reviewers and youtubers focused around video production. Completely saturated

If you really want a chance you have to find a niche that hasn't been tapped dry or do a niche in a different way than the rest do it.

I started a channel I thought would be a huge hit with the 50 and older crowd where I cut my entire yard with a ruler and pair of scissors and filmed the whole thing. Broke them down into hour long episodes and I never saw near the money yall are talking about on her. And now I have serious midcal bills from my back problems.

To put your number in perspective Jake Paul gets well over 3m a day and only makes about 20% of the 65m you stated.

I have no way to know if your numbers are accurate but 20% of 65M is still a lot of millions. Either way, making bank for just filming yourself doing whatever.

Most ads have a click through rate of 0.2%

100k views * 0.2% = $200

I probably shouldn't have used clicks. And my math was a bit off in that Youtube itself makes about $.18 per view of the video, and Youtube pays 68% of that to the content creator...so around $3-5 dollars per 1000 views of the video. Keep in mind this is an overall average of ad views, ad click-throughs, etc.

So 100k views is actually $300-500. That's still not bad scratch if your videos average a million views or more.

Here's a pretty cool website that tracks, estimates how much earnings youtubers earn per month . I have Tucker Gotts up because I love watching his Paramotor explorations.

LINK

month estimated earnings
October 2019 $ 512
September 2019 $ 2.16K
August 2019 $ 3.51K
July 2019 $ 2.65K
June 2019 $ 1.98K
May 2019 $ 1.16K
April 2019 $ 2.39K
March 2019 $ 5.98K
February 2019 $ 1.93K
January 2019 $ 1.74K

so he's made a little over $10,000 so far this year for just posting videos of him flying a Paramotor

Auto vids are one of the strongest paying overall sectors.

It's not bad at all but it's very hard to get 100k views on video. I think kids these days are not aware of this.

I had a joke video on a joke account go viral on reddit about 6 years ago and only got to about 250k, but since I didnt have 1000 subscribers i didnt see a dime from it

Like I said I have 2 cousins, one is 16 and one is 24, trying to make it as gaming streamers and they have gone all in on all the equipment and everything. Switchers, fancy web cams, microphones, hardware, software, you name it and have been doing it for a while now and have like 150 subscribers each. Completely saturated market. Unless you are a hot woman with big tits you arent gaining any traction as a streamer these days

They had twitch con in San Diego last week and they had thousands of people walking around. It's a modern day lottery

This is the key statement. Making it as twitch streamer these days unless you have some niche thing isn't going to happen. That ship has already sailed.

But there are plenty of other subjects out there making bank on Youtube and other media platforms. Just look at the Towsends channel SFP linked about the 18th century recipe. They have over a million subscribers to watch some dude dressed in revolutionary-era clothing make and cook stuff from that time period.

Youtube is generally more entertaining than regular tv.

Scott Kilmer
Hoovies Garage
Technology Connections
Audio Philliac
Paul Magawan PS Audio
Stereophile
Analog Planet
Fast Lane multiple sub channels
Bright Light Films

I don't pay any of them but I give them views.

yeah it's all about finding a niche

there are some other secrets but i'm not going to spoil them now. however, i will say there is a reason gambling-based shows are showing up. that's the new niche that i see (there are too many for me to know all of them)

Most of the big youtubers these days aren't making money exclusively from views. Especially now that youtube is really cracking down on anything right leaning politically, or people using copyrighted material. They do sponsored videos and patreon now.
