quote:Get ONE parent to text that info to you BUT most of the time the team should be told when the next practice is, at the end of the last one. I understand there can be other factors that affect this but for the most part...
I need to know when/where practice is...

I’m surprised when I meet people who care about sports for grown women much less six year olds girls.

Ahhh... I miss the days when my rec league coaches drank Schlitz beer and smoked Lucky's in the dugouts.

IDK, playing sports with my son is the highlight of our relationship so far. Just him and I, not the team part...but the more we play together the better he does with the team.
He impresses me, and that's hard for a 12 yr old to do with their dad.

I dont get the issue, at the beginning of the years everyone is happy and excited, they jabber a bunch. These parents think because little Suzie has made 3 of ten on the 7 foot goal in the driveway she will be hitting fade aways from behind the arc with the insurance salesman down the street coaching them. Those expectations will crash down in a matter of days.
After a while it dies down and you just get an occasional message.

You don't sign up to have fun. It's about learning the game, being competitive and giving serious effort. If y'all want to have fun, go to Chuck E Cheese.

This is something that people, who have kids in sports, should read.
The part I posted is just a part of it. The link is about three stages of athletic development.
quote:
Problem Areas Bad experiences with sports at an early age can turn an individual away from sports involvement forever. The two main culprits leading to bad experiences for children are: Overemphasis on competition. The best way for a good young athlete to progress is not to introduce him to competition as soon as possible. Competition can hinder talent development because at in higher-level competitive leagues, children often to have to sit on the bench to allow other children to play. The child cannot learn and develop from sitting on the bench and would be better served by participating in activities that keep him involved. Bad coaching. Studies show that critical to the development of elite athletes is quality coaching, even at a young age. The better coaches have the ability to motivate and encourage young athletes and keep them interested in a sport. Children are more likely to keep playing for good coaches. There is no chance for a gifted athlete to develop her talents if she drops out of a sport. Good coaches promote talent development by promoting continued participation. Read more: LINK

So I signed my daughter up for 6U basketball because she wanted to play and I thought it would be fun.
Youth sports are a good thing, as long as sports are a part of a wide range of activities they are involved in.
Girls basketball is especially useful if you’re trying to raise your daughter to be a lesbian.
