You should really tell them "I know people are mentioning offensive philosophies, but these are 6 year olds. We should focus on the basics first. They have to get the basics down before going a step further"..

I went to a few basketball games for a good friend of mines twin daughters, who are 11.

It's something they have decided they are interested in and want to continue playing and at 11 years old they were just running man to man defense.. Then if someone got the ball in the paint they would trap her.

On offense it was pretty much motion offense. If it's just some parent who thinks they know basketball because they watch it on TV and not someone with any type of real coaching experience, they shouldn't even be talking about establishing an offensive philosophy.

So I signed my daughter up for 6U basketball because she wanted to play and I thought it would be fun.

Now I'm on a group text message and these parents are discussing offensive philosophy and want to know what drills we are running and whatnot.

It is non stop texting.

Most of the parents on my sons team are like this. Nonstop texting, facebooking and everything else. They even eat dinner together once a week.

We did not have parents like that when I was playing youth sports. They mostly left us alone and let the coach do his job. I go to all his games, make sure he gets to practice, and pay the absurd fees that sports cost these days. That's it. The team is his thing. Supporting and encouraging him is my thing.

Great suggestion. We used this for baseball this year and eliminated the issues with the group text.

A friend coaches girls middle school basketball. His stories are comical about practice and games. I can only imagine 6 years olds. I wouldn't stop laughing.

Tell them your philosophy is taking your daughter’s talents to the West Coast if they don’t win a championship.

Girls basketball has no offensive philosophy until you get to college.

You give the ball to your best player and let her score.

Hell most youth sports, boys and girls, rely on one player to win games

Burned out. What a terribly overused term. It’s an excuse for a kid that has other priorities. Like girls, video games, hanging around the pool after sleeping in. Whatever.

Burned out really means a kids didn’t have the chops to do what it takes.

Superior athletes are born, not created, if you didn't get the gift it really doesn't matter what you do.

Agreed. Yet a superior athlete still has to work hard and make it a priority. Many don’t and use the burned out excuse.
