Your Most Insulting Car Salesman Story?

We had a salesman at a big dealership give us a crazy lowball trade-in offer for the wife's pristine SUV because the trailer hitch was never used.
He said, "nobody wants a used SUV with an untested towing package."
We promptly left, never came back, and got a good offer elsewhere.

Pretty sure people would want a vehicle that didn’t tow heavy shite a bunch over one that was hauling shite constantly

Just walk if they won't deal with you to terms you are happy with. Not sure why this is so hard for some people to grasp.

World would be better without car sales persons.

A girlfriend once told me her older brother (car salesman) told her I came in and test drove a car but couldn't afford it.

Did you read the OP?

Kind of OT, but I had a tire shop guy tell me that if I didn't pay for a front-end alignment my tires might just spontaneously explode on me.
You mean the tires you just sold me?
The car rolled fine, FFS. Didn't need an alignment and that shop probably half-assed alignments anyway.

Yeah that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard

Probably because he picked up that you might be racist or sexist.
Just a spin-off from my thread.

Had a general manager tell me after 2 walk outs and several hours: “maybe this car is just too much for you”.
Walked out for the third time.

I’ve encountered several situations like that mentioned by the other thread. Basically make a deal based off an online posting, show up, and the deal changes or gets interrupted by the bullshite add ons. Eventually I learned to be super ready to walk away and start over. Or work multiple deals with multiple dealers at once. Pretty quickly can find the least sleazy, or most willing, to get a deal done. Just don’t get married to a specific vehicle.
I once had a guy tell me about how he had to feed his family and had me cornered talking about it’s a fair deal he promises, talking about his religion and how he wants what’s best for everyone. Of course it wasn’t a good deal.

They are generally all scumbags. Was in the business for a bit

A few decades ago, we were looking at a car and made the salesman an offer. He pulled the old "I have to talk to my manager about that". He went out to "talk to his manager" and must have forgotten we sitting in an office with windows where we could see what he was doing. Went and got a cup of coffee, walked over to the other guys milling about (none of them was the manager) to chit-chat for a while then strolled right back to tell us his manager couldn't go that low. We got up and left.

I scheduled a test drive for a vehicle we were looking at and the guy I had been talking to showed up over an hour late. The car was also disgusting inside because an employee apparently used it for a family road trip and they didn't bother to clean it.
Out of principle I waited for him, drove the car, and then told him he was insane if he thought I was buying anything from him or his dealership. We found the exact car elsewhere and bought it. I texted him a pic of it for good measure.

Post his number. I've got some shite in the driveway that has been tested extremely thoroughly.

Top this:
Over 20 years ago, I went to find a car for my fiancé. Found a new Honda Civic at a dealership about 2 hours away. Drove up there on a Saturday, played the saleman's games. Signed the finance paperwork and drove it home. Monday I went to the courthouse, registered it and got the tag. The next day, on Tuesday, the dealership called me while I was at work saying they couldn't get me the interest rate we agreed on, and that I would need to come back and re-sign at a higher interest rate! I told this idiot that I was not going to do that. The deal was done and the car is now registered. He made some veiled threat about suing, and I called that bluff and said I'd be happy to see him again in court. Hung up the phone and never heard from them again.

Most people don't want to deal with the hassle of looking for the best deal.

Which is piss poor logic. I want the best but I don't want to put any work to get it.
