re: Your Most Insulting Car Salesman Story?

My current truck was purchased "Certified Preowned."
Three days after I brought it home, the battery dies.
I text the salesman "Hey man, the truck you sold me, the battery is dead, and I just had to spend $240.00 to replace it."
He texted back "Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Let me check with the service manager to see what we can do."
Later that day he texts "I'm sorry, but the service manager said this is a wear and tear issue, so isn't covered by any warranty."
I send him a screen shot of the 250-Point check that is supposed to be done on a "Certified Pre-Owned" vehicle, which includes checking the battery. I also told him that I know for a fact they didn't do a thorough inspection of the truck because when I pulled the cabin air filter, it looked like it hadn't been changed in years.
"Sorry, my hands are tied."
"Thanks for checking" I replied.
I immediately got on google and blasted the dealership on the reviews. Did the same of Facebook.
Two days later, I get a phone call from the salesman "Hey, is there any way you can take those reviews down?"
"Sure I can, as soon as I'm reimbursed for the battery."
"If we cut you a check today, can you remove them?"
"I'll remove them as soon as the check clears."
Apparently the General Manager saw my reviews and wasn't too happy about it.

Car salesman tried to get me to pay for the timing belt and shocks (think it was shocks, or balljoints..something like that) as an add on cost to the value of the minivan. Then low balled the frick out of my trade.
I just calmly said no. Not paying for maintenance. Showed him trade in value on my car in excelent condition (which no one could argue, it appeared and drove like brand new off the lot and it was 7 years old). They offered 2k under trade value of 3k over on the van in maintenance add ons.
I just wanted a fair deal, nothing to brag about. But this fricker insisted to show me their costs for having to change that belt and those shocks.
I walked out, had my kids game to get to and had even told him that. I said, I have an hour, I want to test drive that minivan and get an evaluation on my trade. Drove it, liked it, knew the value of every trim and feature and had the mileage and condition tables printed in my back pocket. Offered them a fair deal and they just insisted on being assholes. I had to threaten to call the police to get the keys to my car so I could get to my kids game. All dude had to do was give me a fair price on my trade and take a fair price for their car and boom, done in an hour. Easy money.
Anyway, they called the day, came down 2k. I told them to call back with a better deal than I first asked for. Nice way of saying, frick off.

In my experience dealing with them, car salesmen/mechanics are the most full of shite human beings on the planet. They always tell you that you should get this or that when all they're trying to do is get an extra buck from you.

Nissan dealership in Metairie, I traded in my vehicle and when reviewing the closing papers the amount was mysteriously not listed. When I raised hell they offered some coupons for free service. Then months later when I went to look for them, they were nowhere to be found

The type of people that some of these car dealerships hire as salesmen are highly questionable.
Some target felons, bc they know they won't have issues with fraud, falsifying info on credit apps, etc.

I bought a van at a dealership in New Orleans in 1997. A price was agreed upon but came signing time, the price went up. The sales manager said the service department charged the sales department for all the prep as the reason for the higher price. I told them it was their job to prep any vehicle and all departments are one in the same. I then walked but was run down by the salesman accepting my offer. The sales manager said to me "you don't want us to make anything" which I replied "I don't care but I know you're still making money."

I love/hate reading all of these stories. Especially knowing I'll be buying a new car in the next 6-9 months.

If you are talking about your trade that's a very valid reason to lower the value.
It doesn't matter how good it looks. If the scheduled timing belt replacement hasn't been done the dealer will have to do it and that is an expense against that vehicle. If he doesn't lower your trade value, then spends the money to get in sellable shape, he has too much money in it.

I was negotiating for a $40,000 vehicle and we were off by $500. They, of course, kept stating how minimal it was on the monthly payments. I was holding my ground. Ended up walking out.
Has any customer ever said "since the amount is so minimal, you can eat the $10/month etc better than I can"? Seems like a good point.
