Watch "Aerial America" on Smithsonian Channel (on every Saturday and Sunday morning).

Love the show. From the deserts to the mountains, the 1080p HDTV is awesome. The explanations and information they provide just makes it that much better.

I haven't watched the Louisiana episode. I prefer to watch the ones with great scenery like Hawaii, California, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Utah, etc, and any place on the east coast especially the Northeastern US.

There are some beautiful places in this country. You would not even notice a lot of it from the ground.

We don’t have great topography but it’s a fantastic state and I have been everywhere in America.

“incredible murder rate” we take so much shlt over our hood being more hood than other hoods. It’s not like the rest of the state shots at each other.

"Cancer Alley" this has been disproven. We do not have more cancer than other places. At least not anymore.

Louisiana has a lot of great things about it. Mostly revolves around people and the culture. Outside that, if you visited other places in the world/country Louisiana is an excellent example of all the socioeconomic problems in America. In fact, it's probably one of the best examples. It's truly depressing to see some spots in Louisiana. Yeah, you could say that's anywhere in the country but in Louisiana it's EVERYWHERE. Full of poverty with only a select few nice areas.

New Orleans is unquestionably a shithole but has excellent culture. It's sad to see such a historic city thought to be at one time THE city of the US such a shell of what it use to be especially on an economical level.

Great plan, get rid of all the producers.

That's partially why Louisiana in is in the state it's in now. They lost all their producers and were left with nothing. That's exactly what happened to New Orleans which was the shining beacon to this country at one point. It's one of the only states that loses population every consensus and ranks at the bottom of livable based on many factors like education, average salary, etc. You could argue it has lower cost of living perhaps but you don't think there's a reason for that? I'm not sure that's entire true either based on other places I've been to since Louisiana taxes you in other ways.

On the other hand, the Mississippi and Arkansas episodes were very good. You'd actually want to go there.

Yeah, I always like to visit Jackson, "The Paris on The Pearl" and take a little side trip to Brandon or Pelahatchie. Mostly for the Theatre or Symphony though.

But I'll drive all the way to Little Rock or even to Paragould or Bald Knob to catch La Bohème or Pagliacci.

Interesting stat about Cancer Alley. I had a Oncologist tell me that the number of cancer cases in Cancer Alley is on par with the national a average. The death rate is higher because people don't or can't get treated.

Yes, they did a good job of selling Arkansas, specifically Fayetteville. I have been there and yes it is a great place, much more scenic than Louisiana. Would not mind living there to be honest.

I don't understand the obsession people have with bashing Louisiana.

I was born/raised here and I've enjoyed my life. That's not to say they aren't much better/nicer places to live, but the negativity that is spewed about this state is WAY overblown.

If you hate it, move. If you like it, stay.

Mostly low-grade trash that can only blame the state for their being worthless. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to carry this worthless trash with our taxes.

Guardian article says 50x national average

Of course I think Louisiana as a whole is much higher anyways

I would argue that some of the rolling hills west of the Kisatchie National Forest are some of the prettiest I’ve seen. I saw some that I rank ahead of Hill Country around Austin. The forest itself. The rivers, bayous, and lakes that most of the posters here have never actually seen. I am just now exploring them at 40 years old. fricking gorgeous.

The Mississippi episode was good.

I am enjoying Pennsylvania, Washington, Illinois, and California too.

criticism is warranted. frustration is more than understandable. there are plenty of reasons to move away.

however, the "frick this place what a shithole" people are using where they live as an excuse for their shortcomings... and they usually have a very romanticized view of places like the woodlands or plano
