Non portable software is another pet peeve. Current computer dies? Too bad, and Oh, you'll need to pay us another fee for the new computer to run it.
(admittedly, the company I'm thinking about has changed this policy, but the older versions are still a problem)

Well cars/trucks last longer and are more reliable than ever before.

bullshite

I have a bulldozer that is 35-40 yrs old and still pushes dirt as well as it did the day it rolled off the assembly line at Caterpillar. No way one of these new ones will still be operational in 2060. Also have a mid 80s Chevrolet truck that I just replaced the engine, block and all, for less than a typical service call to the dealership on a current model. I grant you the new ones have all the bells and whistles but longevity isn't what it used to be. We live in a throwaway society with virtually no interchangeable parts.

I bought 2nd hand on a decent deal back before Covid. Tractor is actually a lil too small for what I need it for and when I buy again it will NOT be JD!

Are Kubotas easier to service and repair yourself?

A “typical service call” is.. what, an oil change? You’re telling me you replaced an engine for less than the cost of an oil change? I’m not sure how that’s possible for any truck unless you got the engine out of a junker for free and did the work yourself (in which case it’s an incredibly disingenuous comparison).

Vehicles are definitely more difficult to work on today, but they do last longer than they did 40-50 years ago. It’s not really debatable.. there’s a ton of data out there to support this.

Lina Khan (FTC chairwoman) has been a strong proponent of right to repair

Lina Khan is the only economic literate person in the Biden administration.

Right to repair isn't really an issue the left owns though, most legislature on the issue has come from Republican governors.

Yeah it’s really unfortunate she will not be retained. FTC has actually been accomplishing things under her leadership.

It's very debatable. I don't think most cars last very long anymore by design.

Just curious why are farmers still buying John Deere? Why not go with another company that doesn’t do this?

And this is called the power of marketing and branding.

I replaced the whole engine in the old truck for a fraction of what an in frame would cost at the dealer.

The average age of cars on the road today is more than double what it was in 1970. This, despite the fact that the number of vehicles in operation has also more than doubled (due to population growth presumably) which should cause the average age to trend lower over time as more cars hit the road.

It’s not at all uncommon to get 150-200k miles out of a car nowadays without needing an engine or transmission. Rust is not nearly as much of a problem as it was with vehicles in the ‘70s and ‘80s. There’s definitely more little shite that can break on new cars, and they’re definitely more difficult to work on as I said, but they stay on the road longer.

I don't think anyone is talking about 50 years ago. Re-do the numbers for cars from 20-30 years ago. We've regressed bigly since then.

And this is why I just bought a 2006 Kubota last month.

I don't have to deal with computers and/or emissions.
