If they weren't renting then why do most 2022s have 50k+ miles? Doesn't add up

but including the $4k Federal used EV credit, that can get as low as $16k.
There's a credit for used evs?
Is there no end to the grift?

The Tesla 3 is a noisy car.
We have great roads in Scottsdale and both Teslas we've ridden in were very loud, especially in the rear seats. I assumed it was from the harder compounds on the tires and the relative lack of cabin insulation ( weight savings).
Psychoacoustics is a fascinating branch of science. Even before Tesla quieted down the highway noise on the Model 3 the actual sound pressure levels were at or in most cases below that of their direct ICE competitors. The problem is how we perceive the sound to more directly how certain sounds are naturally more irritating to most people.
This is a case where sounds can be less irritating when mask by a louder but more soothing sound. Similar to nails on a chalk born being masked by brown noise.
This is also in a similar vein to how many people prefer the sound of tube amplification to solid-state amplification even though the THD is significantly less when using transistors. The majority of distortion from a well-designed tube amp is even order distortion whereas SS amps tend to have more odd-order distortion and as it turns out people tend to be less bothered by the even order distortion.
ICE vehicles have a completely different set of mechanical sounds and road and wind noise are a much larger component of the total sound. People tend to prefer the total ICE noise even if it is higher whether by conditioning or something deeper coded into their psychoacoustic.
It is becoming clear that EV makers need to spend more time working on NVH and will probably begin to embrace active noise cancellation across the board.
Tire noise can always be addressed since tire models vary significantly in road noise even within the same performance envelope but you tend to be stuck with the OE stores for a bit unless you are willing to drop ~$1k to lower it.
I for one tend to like somewhat noisy tires because I gather a lot of information about what is going on at the contact patch that way. My DD has max perf tires so they speak pretty load, I tend to miss it when I am driving my travel car with much quieter touring tires. I also accept I am odd.

There sure is.

You gonna call for unsubsidized gas, too?

Unlike an ICE, battery cars have an end date. I'm curious to see how lenders treat these snob carts.

Excellent post, and I agree.
I'm willing to accept tire noise, or preferably, a performance exhaust note in a sports car.
My F-250 is as quiet as a Lexus at highway speeds (confirmed by R&T with a decibel meter) and I love that for long trips.
The Tesla noise seemed to be more of a loud drone, which seemed to be tire noise amplified by the shape of the cabin. Very annoying...
The S may be better, IDK.

Found the vin for the middle one and it’s sitting at 88%. That’s high for that car but shows what happens when a car spends most of its life level 3 charging and what range anxiety-like behavior does to the BESS.
That’s better than I expected considering (like you said) it’s all L3 charging by people who couldn’t have cared less about maintaining battery health.
I’m actually less concerned about the battery and more concerned about other wear and tear caused by people who rent cars and treat them like crap.

Just to add to the warnings about these cars, Hertz had/has a partnership with Lyft/Uber where they rent the cars to these drivers.
The drivers wear the hell out of these vehicles. It's amazing that it's even feasible as I think the rental rate was around $1200 a month. Of course the rideshare drivers got preferential ride pick-ups, but they def. put some serious miles on these cars.

The whole ethanol game is worse. That's when I knew DC could care less about science.

Don't you have to add on the self-driving option? I wonder if these are equipped with it. Or if you can somehow upgrade it later...?

I'd prefer gasoline wasn't massively penalized like it is.

Batteries are probably 40% by now

Same. How many dumb comments will we see where the poster doesn't know we could get that info with a few taps on the screen

It's wild because just a couple weeks ago I was looking at first gen Model S with 150k+ miles and over 90% capacity. Then you compare that to a latest gen Model 3 with 80k and less capacity. It's a case study in how behavior impacts battery health.

Thats the real kicker. I don't want a car that someone definitely banged a hooker with autopilot on at some point.

They're all built with the FSD system and it can be enabled later.

You have any user/owner knowledge on the VW ID cars? I’ve seen a few of the ID 5 cars recently and they’re a very nice looking vehicle. Trying to find any reliable feedback on them.

About as many as you would expect. The middle one is at 88%. Which is on the higher end of degradation for both vintage and usage. A victim of constant level 3 top offs.

Those are probably the covers.

Might be a good option for commuting, if the battery is in good shape. Or for a kids first car?
