General "Black Jack" Pershing
Pershing was a member of the 1886 Class from West Point; he graduated 30th of 77 in his Class but had held most all of the important leadership positions of his class.

He would serve in the 1880s and 1890s in the Indian Wars in the US. His final command there was with the 10th US Cavalry, which was all black (aka “Buffalo Soldiers”).

In 1897, he was recalled to West Point as a faculty member and the cadets gave him the nickname of “N-word Jack” Pershing because of his previous affiliation with the 10th Cavalry men, which appellation was later softened to Black Jack.

One of my uncles was named after him; Pershing’s given name was John Joseph Pershing.

My grandfather had served in the US Army under Pershing and held him high enough esteem to name a son after him almost two decades later.

Pershing lived from 1860 to 1948; quite an interesting time stretch of US History.

Can't be someone you personally knew
My maternal grandfather died when I was four months old, I wasn’t even conscious in the time I “knew” him.

Would love to hear his side of the stories about playing wingback at CU Boulder, service in the air corps in the pacific, meeting his nurse wife in Saipan, and raising 5 successful children.

Nikola Tesla—imagine what he could accomplish with the technology available today. With modern computers, advanced materials, AI, and access to cutting-edge research (Quantum Computer), this guy could do some serious work.

If I can bring him to the US, it’s Pinochet.
