Hence why I said yell.. ie from far away. Mortar will be load and shake the ground beneath their feet while taking out a lot of their homies. I am the thunder God

We're splitting hairs here.

Spoiler: The Mongols routed the defenders by forcing them back to their camp after a brutal pitched battle on the plains with the river at their back and then using their siege weapons to devastating effect. The defenders fled the camp and were routed. Most of Hungary was raped and pillaged by the Mongols before infighting slowed the invasion.

That’s my fetish.

Every Saw I have fired while in the military was good for a hundred rounds or so, then they start jamming.
I went from the Saw to a 240. I much prefer the 240 even though it is much more of a load to carry.

Obviously the 240 would better than any of the listed options.

I was assuming that in this scenario that overheated barrels, jams, hung rounds, etc. weren’t an issue.

The volume of lethality with an effective SAW is just light years ahead of the other two options.

Someone said it before, caltrops and barriers that impact the mobility of the Mongol horse archers would be the key even given the automatic weapons.

Their ability to move quickly and kill from a distance were hell on opponents in this era.

I would try to lure their horse archers into a kill zone using a gap in my fixed defenses which would be backed by a second line of defenses, immobilize them with caltrops and holes dug intended to break their horses legs, hit them with the automatic weapons and crossbows from the flanks and deliver the coup de grace with my heavy cavalry.

Once their archers were dealt with I’d use mobile pavises and move forward using their cover while smashing them to pieces with the crew weapon and archers to pieces as they try to make it back across the river.

Eh, you give medieval units with a little bit of discipline some modern weaponry like that, and they’ll hold their own and more. The difference in firepower is just so big - you start mowing charging cavalry down by the hundreds in a matter of a few minutes, and it would change the battlefield radically.

See, y’all aren’t being smart about it.

The mongols were all about implementing the best from those they conquered. Use the tech to get an audience with the Khan/generals. Kill them.

The whole thing falls apart or you are cemented as the almighty pow pow wizard and take over the world 100 rounds at a time

M249. Go cyclic, shock them into a stupor, then order an all out attack before they figure out I only have one of them and I can't kill them all.

Agreed. They never faced an enemy who could hurt them from a distance. A weapon that could hit a horse sized target at 500 yards would be a game changer.

The battle would still hinge on the discipline and tactics of the rest of the army however.

Just give me an A-10 if we're going all out. And a pilot.

I think mortar shells dropped in their camp the night before would make them think they are incurring the wrath of God and they would run for home

Scenario: You are at the Battle of Mohi on 11 April 1241 fighting with a combined force of Hungarians, Croatians, Austrians, and Knights Templar against the Golden Horde led by Beaty Khan.

It's a trick question. Beaty Khan's sister, Shirley MacLaine Khan, would speak with spirits who would warn of the new weaponry, allowing the Mongols to avoid battle and continue their advance on other fronts.

Mortar would be mostly useless in a pitched battle against a Calvary Force like the Mongols.

The SAW is the easy choice. A Templar body guard around you, just make mince meat of the other guys. In fact, you drop a couple hundred while they are still way across the battlefield and they run.
