That’s what I was thinking. We were closer than that to some bison and I didn’t feel concerned. Shows how vulnerable we really are to nature.

The rut usually starts mid to late July, I guess it’s possible. The guy was with his grandson and apparently was over, 100 ft away. That was one honoree bison.

I tent camped the western US on a motorcycle abut 20 years ago. Camped one night in Yellowstone. I tried to find a campsite in the middle of the campground so any of the wild animals looking for a human popsicle would wade through others before getting to me.

When entering the park, they give maps and monthly newsletter and had a chalkboard with how many bison gorings they’ve had that year. I was on a motorcycle so I kept my distance from the bison, but I did have to stop a few times due to them blocking the road.

I was riding a loud snorting motorcycle through Yellowstone a few years ago and there was a bull making his way down center lane of the road filled with slow moving cars.

My riding partner looked at each other and without a word, we did a U-turn and drove off a hundred yards and waited him out.

We didn't know if he'd view a pair of Harleys as threat or not but we were not taking chances.

They were pretty far and not bothering the animal. That sucks. Bison was looking for a fight. I’ve seen infinitely more dumbassery from tourists.

I feel bad for laughing at the end

ETA:

Someone said the truck set him off and I agree. The dude had already hidden behind a tree too.

Exactly, we were leaving Old Faithful and walking in the parking lot. We looked up and right in front was a Bison. We immediately turned at a 90 degree angle and got into the gift shop. I am just saying that it comes at you fast when you aren’t looking for it.

He got up because of them like he was getting ready to either charge or maybe just getting ready if he thought they were going challenge him, but the truck actually got him charging. When he realized the truck was getting away he shifted his anger back to his original focus.

It was wild to see him quickly shift from the truck back to them without wasting hardly any time or effort by not continuing to chase after the truck, and then how he shifted from looking like he was going to follow them around the trees to going to cut them off on the other side.

Afterwards he basically stood over him asserting his dominance.

I read it charged at some kids taking pictures with cell phones right before the video, but they quickly got out the way. He then ran thru camp ground while others moved away. Then he found that dirt spot at start of video.

That buffalo was livid.

And the guy in the truck did no favors slow rolling by that behemoth. That just made him more mad
