MIL prepares food for about 40 and 8-11 show as a maximum. Every year we discuss it and decide on a sane amount of food. She starts adding stuff about 2 weeks before and then here we are again. But, I eat like a king for a week or so. LOL

Grandma does this and loads us down with leftover

Every year I see this thread and begin to get more thankful that we hide hard as frick from family during the holidays.

Think of the movie four Christmas's that's our family. We do not embrace, we run, fake sickness, make other plans, etc.

All to make it so we can cook our own food, drink our own drink, do what we want for a day without work.

It's awesome

What about the guy who was crying about his brother in law sleeping in instead of attending the family breakfast?

Nothing yet, but we're supposed to drive from Austin to Dallas tomorrow and my wife is currently sick as a dog. She also reminded me that before Thanksgiving dinner her family has a tradition of playing tennis and she isn't missing it.

Can't wait to see what mood she's in after battling a cold/flu and playing tennis outside in 50 degree weather with a drizzle.

At least the only thing they asked me to bring this year was a case of champagne so we don't have to cook.

We did our “first” thanksgiving on Sunday with family in Trussville, AL. One of my wife’s cousins came and brought her boyfriend Devin. Devin proceeds to openly vape in the living room and then the cousin (1) clogs up the hall toilet and (2) vapes in the bathroom while someone runs for a plunger.

They leave. Everyone exhales. 10 mins later there’s a knock on the door. The cousin re-enters. “I left my vape in the bathroom” she declares. Grabs it and is gone again. Happy Holidays!

I learned about an episode that took place at a family gathering last year, that I don't go to.

Quick summary, when I was a kid we used to go to my mom's side for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter (and my dad's side as well, but my mom has 7 siblings and it was always a big party with lots of people).

Today, my mom's parents passed away years ago some of the siblings want to keep the tradition. Well, most of my cousins have children and then some of their children have children so people just sort of lost touch and go with immediate family, but there are still a decent amount of people who go to the family party.

I have an uncle who had a kid when he was in his mid 50s, now he is in his late 60s. His kid, a daughter is just trash. Her mom is trash, her dad is an idiot. She had no hope since day one.

Another one of my uncles and his wife have been like her second parents, but no one can do anything with her. Last year, one of my cousin's husband was outside and noticed the girl doing something and he went look.. And she was on her phone twerking. He snuck up to see what was going on and she was on the phone with some older man.

The phone was my uncle's who is like a second parent (oh.. she is 14.. 15 years old). The girl knew she was going to be in trouble so all of a sudden she "passed out". She was brought to the hospital and something lead to her being put in a mental hospital, but it was a huge shite show. I thought that was pretty trashy.
