In all seriousness, vaccinate your dog

Ive been leaning this way

At the very least get heartworm treatments.

Is the only method a monthly, oral treatment? Or is there like a 6 month shot ?

The profit margin on the vaccinations and medications are extremely minimal. That isnt where they make their money.

I still dont understand why some of you think Vets are living in mansions and driving lambos.

Treatments are a 6 month shot or topical treatment. 6 month shot is usually cheaper, but topical treatments usually come with flea and other worm prevention also.

FAR from an expert, but have a friend that outside of the initial puppy shots has never taken his lab to the vet, and that dog is old as shite.

He does do the heart worm medication or whatever

There is a 6 month shot but you have to go every 6 months. There is also monthly pills that also have flea meds in them. They have to test your dog for heart worms before they give any.

Vaccinations are your opinion but you MUST get heart worm meds. He may have them all ready. Like 90% of strays have it. Doesn't take long.

As someone who fostered a dog with severe heart worms, it isn't pretty. They get in their lungs and cough and can't run and play.

It's called being a responsible pet owner. It only costs like $200 total for the year

dont try to skip on these im not kidding. I bought my dogs in florida 4 years ago while on vacation at our home there, dogs got registered I guess by the vet. The next year i skipped out on registering them trying to be slick when the vet called and saying i lived in houston. I got a big fine from some animal control department in miami.

I called and even if your dog runs away or dies theres a process you go through to get that dog out of the system otherwise they know the dogs alive and i would need proof he got his shots in houston.

It was a BS fine but i had to pay it, apparently they could hold up sales of property, etc if you dont, just ridiculous but whatever rules are rules.

Why don't you want to vaccinate?

What happens if your dog is on the woods and a rabid animal bites him?

The heartworm issue is real. I can't imagine having a dog and letting that lapse where you live and where you take your dog. That's irresponsible, truly.

I'll equate vaccinations to seat belts.
Can you drive across country without a seat belt and be fine? Sure. But just in case...
Same with the shots.
Further an annual exam could show Fido has an early detection issue that can be taken care of in time.

I'm only like 2 months past due on heartworm, not good, but not irresponsible, truly

You need to at least get your dog the rabies vaccination. The reason that the law says to vaccinate is not so much to prevent your pet from getting rabies as to keep people from getting rabies. I saw a video once of people in India dying from rabies. Horrible way to go.

Yes, it would.

We differ on our opinion of pet owner responsibility.

so you assume anyone who recommends something is only doing so to make a profit? No, I don't think they are going to tell you to get vaccs simply to make a buck. I think they will tell you to get a rabies vac regardless, but any other vaccs will probably be offered as a suggestion, not a necessity. Leaving the decision to you.
I guarantee you the vet(s) will not offer a service just "to make money". Thats not how they make a career out of their job.

After the initial round of shots and tests for cats, it's a waste of money.

Vets have you by the balls though thinking miffy and foo foo need as much care as they do

Dude all it takes is one time. Patron of where my wife used to work forgot for one week, and the dog got heartworms.

FIL didnt know about bordetella, watched one of his dogs die from it.

Look at your apartment lease. Most require vaccinations to keep pets.

Yea. They are necessary so that the VET can pay for that extra house, boat and side piece
