Yearly Pet Vaccinations: Are They Necessary?

I need the OT's expertise on a debatable topic. My dog is now about 2 and a half. He got the normal shots as a pup, and then got his annuals at 1 year. This year, however, I have yet to vaccinate. I am not against it, but also am not sure if it is necessary.
He is a yellow lab mix, about 70 pounds. We frequent the trails and woods, but live in an apartment complex. Been using K9 Advantix for fleas and mosquitoes, but probably going to switch to oral soon

Do you give him heartworm meds?

Quit taking our pets to the vet. It's a scam.

He hasn't had any this year, no. Is their a vaccine for heartworm, or is it something you must give monthly?
I promise I'm not as pet dumb as this makes me sound

If you ever want to board your dogs, you need to get them rabies and kennel cough boosters every year.

well yearly rabies shots is required by law in tn so....

In Houston, you have to prove vaccines are current every year.

Well I live in AL so the question remains

Interesting. I've spoken with several people recently who have never vaccinated their dogs and their animals lived long, happy lives

That's very important in the south. I quit giving mine heartworm medicine when I moved to Colorado. But we really don't have mosquitos around here.

Yea that's the main thing I have to address it seems. The mosquito preventative in the Advantix is nice, but hardly 100%

My mom missed her cats vaccine this year. Bastard got ringworms and gave her one.

why don't you ask three different veterinarians in your area for their opinion while you get an estimate from them for the service? There may be three posters here with enough knowledge of the subject to answer your question. The other 5-6 pages of shite opinions will do nothing to help you.

Yes the vaccinations are necessary and please continue giving them the heartworm and flea medication.

If you take your cat or dog to the vet, they report it to the city. The city then sends a letter requiring you send proof of vaccinations and like $20.
If they never have taken to the vet in Houston, the city would never know.

So you want your dog to get autism?

I have done that. If the vet makes money off vaccing my dog, do you think they're going to tell me not to?

Rabies is required by law. Also if you ever get him groomed/or board him.

I think he already has it...

In all seriousness, vaccinate your dog. At the very least get heartworm treatments.
