Did you miss all the sexual abuse / serial killers of boys in the 70’s and 80’s? It wasn’t too common then?

To be fair pedophilia is now a major platform of one of the political parties that wants private sex time with 5 year olds as an example.

So.

It is worse now.

Some fringe people used to commit these crimes. Now you can be sure tens of millions want to be next.

This is how it was when I grew up. I only now realize as an adult and parent it was mostly just a safe and fun way for the kids to get together while my parents and their friends partied

Yeah looking back for a small town/rural area my hometown did it up pretty big too

Just lot more hayrides bringing kids around than door to door stuff. My grandmother still gets around 200 kids a year.

Yea I don’t get towns planning Halloween. Used to be you expected it Halloween night. If you didn’t want kids bugging you then turn off the outdoor light, that was the universal sign not to go to that door.

Trunk or treat is parents being too lazy to walk around with their kids and using safety as an excuse. Hell if you’re worried about safety, conceal carry while you monitor the kids. My parents used to dress up too when they took us as kids. Halloween was fun. We went to haunted houses. Adults would try to scare us by jumping out from hiding as we walked up to their house. People suck today

Don’t let kids go alone. Just walk out on the street and let them run up to the houses while staying in sight. It’s not hard to be a good parent without ruining the fun. By the time your presence as a parent annoys the kid they’re too old to trick or treat anyways

I can’t speak for everywhere, but where I am, retired boomers place signs in their yards telling kids don’t bother.

Nothing like an ole fashioned goat sacrifice and a few Hershey bars. It’s all just cheap costumes and Sunday school soccer Moms running the show now.

Just sad.

Not to mention the requisite check for razor blades prior to eating any candy.

Need to go back to the good old days. Churches are soft with their trunk or treats. Our churches in the 80’s burned records by satanic artists such as AC/DC (against Christ/Devil children) and the Eagles, due to their backmasking tactics.

We'll be handing out the candy on Monday night as it should be.

Don't come knocking on Saturday night because we'll be at the bar

It happened then too. It’s just that if you lived in Lexington, KY you weren’t likely to hear about such an incident that occurred in Tulsa, OK.

Now, with the prevalence of social media, countless 24 hour news channels, and thousands of “true crime” podcasts, it is very likely you will.

There is a regular poster on here who was molested and kidnapped by his karate teacher in the 80’s, and whose dad killed the teacher in the airport while news cameras rolled. If you weren’t from Baton Rouge or Louisiana, there is a decent chance you didn’t hear about it when it happened

Strange.

Where I am there is a HUGE neighborhood that everyone goes to. See kids of all ages.

Our local park/baseball organization did do a trunk or treat but that was like two weekends ago.

Didn’t know places were doing away with it.

Generally, nicer neighborhoods schedule trick or treating on nights other than Oct. 31 to avoid having outsiders infiltrate their area by the car loads.

Many of these outsiders don’t bother to wear costumes and some are north of 18 years old.

As a parent, I’ll say that Halloween is gaining on Christmas as the holiday that’s the biggest pain in the arse.

Church based trunk or treats have grown for sure. Only nerds did those growing up.

I live smack dab in the middle of one of the nations largest cities and i will have nearly a thousand youths descend on my street trick or treating. We get so many that the neighborhood organizes a neighbors only trick or treat the day before Halloween because our kids all have more fun passing out candy to legions of other kids.

I wish it would die some in my area. We get way too many people coming in in cars.

Halloween has turned into a fragmented, watered down version of what is used to be. Instead of everyone trick or treating on Halloween night, parents take their kids to "safe zones" like churches or parking lots or down commercial streets where they can go collect candy while wearing a costume (I don't call that trick or treating). These events trypically aren't even on Halloween. Some towns schedule a night for trick or treating that's not even on Halloween night. Why!?

We are robbing our children of one of the most special times of being a child. There's nothing like trick or treating on Halloween night. Seeing mobs of kids all walking the dark streets at the same time, having nearly all houses in all neighborhoods with their lights on inviting trick or treaters, and being able to look forward to that night every year without having to ask "what night are we allowed to trick or treat this year?"

Halloween should not be a carefully planned, controlled event where old people force kids to engage in Halloween on the old people's terms. Halloween is Halloween and old people should deal with it and give the kids the Halloween they got when they were kids!

You clearly have never been trick or treating in University Club recently
