If ya ain't dealt with one of those then id suggest not getting one because of the Bluey cartoon show.
Ive had three of them now, they are protective to the core and nipping is in their blood.
Great dogs even with a family, but you need to know what the frick your doing. Its not like a lab

3 bites on humans, if this goes to court and they show a pattern and nothing was done, not only are you paying medical bills/pain and suffering (most likely covered by insurance) the jury is going to assign punitive damages, which is not covered by insurance. That’s coming straight out your pocket.

Call Kristi Noem. She’ll take care of it!

Look, I had a dog that I loved with all my soul, but she was broken. She was a rat terrier/beagle and she looked like a Jack Russell. I had to put her down after she attacked my husband in the middle of the night. My life basically revolved around not making her react. I couldn’t have people over. She was on 100ml of trazadone 3x a day. We saw behaviorists, vets, and I even spent $500 on a session with a celebrity trainer.
Sometimes you just have to call it.

Are you waiting for the next time he attacks the next unfortunate person before you get it in your thick head that your dog needs to be put away?

When a dog attacks a person, that dog has to go. No questions asked.
The only disclaimer I’d give is we have no idea the type of dog or the scope here
That he’s asking implies he probably knows the answer already but there is definitely at least some grey space between a pit bull mauling someone and a lab nipping someone’s pants leg (still not ok but could be training addressed)

Agree. Was attacked by a Pit Bull. I hope all Pit Bulls are put down eventually.

Reading this thread you'd think most feel we should exterminate the entire dog population.
This is total bullshite.
I am on dog #7 right now. Only once in my life did I have an aggressive one, a resource guarder that didn't like other animals but was fine with humans. Only bit my wife once when it instigated a fight with our other dog and she was trying to break it up. That dog was euthanized not long after that due to cancer, but it was a very small beagle so human nature was to not see it as the same threat as a larger dog with aggressive tendencies, or it would have been euthanized sooner or rehomed to a rabbit hunter and not a house dog.
So 1 out of 7 dogs is not "the entire dog population".

I had one put down for attacking someone we had working at the house. We had him in the back yard that had a 6 foot privacy fence. He was a Shepard mix, and was looking out of a gap in the fence when he heard them pull up. When they got out of the truck he went over that fence like it was nothing. Thankful he didn’t get any teeth into the dude. He had been showing more aggression to anything coming into his turf for a while and I had already been thinking I was going to have to put him down. He was a great dog for our family we just lived around to many people.

So put down a Yorkie if she or he attacks you? That's basically what you are saying. Got it. I'd be good putting a bullet between the eyes of some retard kid coming at me with a knife of a gun, than putting down a dog that can be trained. Dogs aren't the problem , its scumbag owners who want to be gangsters and watch too much TV. I am too much of a dog lover to give up that easily.

Congrats you have a dog that puts your family's safety above his. You should be praising him.

As a parent, you NEVER want to have to look back and say “I saw the signs and didn’t do anything.”. He was a blue heeler, and I did my best to try and re-home him, but ultimately, as a responsible parent of 3 kids, I had to make the hard, but right, decision to put him down.
People like you should never have pets. Don't get a difficult breed and take its life because you can't train it.

I have a dalmatian that is aggressive at front door people, worries me. my sons friends just walk in a shoe her out of the way no problem, but If I get up she is aggressive. Waiting on something bad to happen and she will be put down
Does the dog just go apeshit, barking when someone rings the bell, or is the dog actually aggressive, physically? If the latter, you’d better put the fear of god into that dog when it happens moving forward, or you’re in for something bad.

Actually, it's scumbag owners who are lazy and don't want to train their dog. Most dog owners are lazy where their dog is concerned. They just say "dogs are going to be dogs; sorry it attacked you".

I once got attacked by a Shepard while walking my neighborhood and broke my wrist. Sucks.
I'm interested what breed of dog the OP has.

Doesn't matter. We had to put down our lab after she snapped at our daughter. An aggressive dog will be an aggressive dog regardless of breed.

Our dog was well trained in basic obedience and still snapped at our daughter. Looking back there were signs from the day we brought her home as a puppy.

What kind of dog? Yes it matters. We had a German Shepherd growing up that would kill a stranger if they came in the yard through the back and the kids were outside.
Never once worried about the dog and kids or even adult he knew. My step-dad was a WWII K-9 trainer and handler and had that dog tuned to perfection.

In be4 "its not the dogs fault" and "dogs are better than people" and all that other bullshite.
Have it put down and get another one. It’s a major liability and could seriously injure or kill someone's child.
This. And not just someone else’s kids, but his own. I love dogs but no animal is worth the safety of your own children, and since this was a rescue and not one he raised from a puppy, there is no way to intimately know the dog’s personality and what it’s capable of.
Sad situation but I’d easily err on the side of my kids. And like you mentioned, there’s the added liability of hurting someone else as well. Not worth it IMO.

Dogs chained/tied up when a stranger is in your/his home is asking for trouble. Put the dog in a crate or locked in a room.
